Hybrids and clean energy for free!

Americans want energy independence and hybrid vehicles, etc., but they don't want to pay for any of these technologies.A Model S for every American for just $20,000

According to the Energy Learning Curve Americans want energy independence. They want new clean energy technologies. They want hybrid cars and electric vehicles. They want more energy efficient homes and better public transportation.

As long as the government pays for ALL of it.

Moreover, these same Americans don't want a gas tax, nor do they want to pay more for more fuel efficient vehicles. So, apparently, the government is to tax the rich to fund all this change?

Granted, ending foreign oil dependency would help fund a huge chunk of this change, as would the personal savings in energy costs.

Still, the fact that huge hordes of Americans are completely unwilling to accept any responsibility for their gas-guzzling, inefficient ways, coupled with their unwillingness to help contribute to fighting these problems, is alarming and disappointing.

Dahcredyns, I couldn't have said it any better. It is truly disappointing that most Amerians want their cake and to eat it too.

People decry 'socialists'! However Germany Japan England and other 'advanced countries' do just FINE with "socialized ideas' ie taxing all to help all. I say a federal tax to help give credits back to corporations and individuals for going 'green' in dozens of ways would be awesome. Many far right republican fundamentalists would say OMG!!...the next thing you would ask us to do is to PUBLICLY fund a not for profit Police department or a not for profit Fire department..where would it all end ??!! help us help us Dick Cheney, Carl Rove and Bushies,,...
Yes I would totally support me being taxed to help anyone or corporation go 'green' to save our planet and our innocent children now. Global warming will make 9/11 look like a drop in bucket when world wide revolutions occur over the right to eat food and have clean water to drink...if we dont address this major issue immediately (dont ask me ask the hundreds of world wide imminent scientist who say its 'already too late')
Hate to be a bummer but its coming ....and reality is a shocker sometimes.

It doesn't even have to be you getting taxed per say. A progressive gas tax pushes consumers into fuel efficient vehicles and the revenue from tax credit can be used to provide tax credits for the buyers of efficient vehicles. So, it doesn't have to hurt that bad.

Even if consumers have to pay more at the pump in the short term, the long term benefits would make the effort worth it.

Disappointing that so many find a little sacrifice for the greater good and benefit of all of us so difficult to swallow.

Still, support is growing.
