Great time to buy a Honda Civic hybrid?
Some interesting deals for hybrid buyersThe other day Smurf, a fellow blogger, went out to buy a Honda Insight hybrid. However, since his local Honda dealer had few Insight hybrids and many Civic hybrids, his salesman made him an offer he couldn't refuse - a Civic hybrid discounted $2000 less than the best deal for an Insight hybrid.
These are great days for the buyers of hybrid cars, as new hybrids come to market in one of the worst auto sales markets ever. Expect these deals to become even more interesting once the 2010 Toyota Prius comes to market.
However, shopping around will make a lot of sense. I've already heard of $4500 dealer markups on the Insight hybrid. So watch out.

I owned a HCH for five years before the batteries and catalytic converter bit the dust at the same time. Until then, I drove 144,000 problem-free miles. I'd happily buy one again.
I did notice that you can get a "certified" used HCH for as little as $12,500.
I'm probable going to get a new car in 2012. I'd consider a HCH if the price was right. The Insight-II is at the top of the list (unless a $21k Prius or hybrid Fit is available).
I purchased a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid for my daughter several years ago. It had 40,000 miles on it when we purchased it. Until it got over 100,000 miles it was basically trouble free. Now we've replaced two catalytic converters at 1,000 each and now with 113,000 the transmission has gone out at a cost of $3,650. Personally I'm telling people to plan on selling it before the warranty runs out or put a log of money aside because you just might need it. No one can work on the transmission so your only choice is a brand new one. I believe this is my last Honda.
I live in the chicago land area and went to see the insight. They sayed that with tax and everything they will give it for 22,000 for the base and also said that if you want to civic hybrid base that they will also take off 2,000 from it which would be with tax about 23,000. So its not a bad deal but i also went to a toyota dealership and they said the pruis is going to be for the base with tax 22,000 which was a hell of a deal in you compare it with the civic and insight!
Bought a 2009 HCH on 3/31/09..
$2000 Dealer Cash
$2000 Off of Sticker
and 3.9% financing.
Was originally going to buy an Insight but with incentives how can you go wrong on a HCH.
Can't wait till April, 18th when they start selling the Honda Insight in Germany. I really want to buy one...
Michael-
I agree with that logic, especially when the fuel economy is basically the same between these two vehicles.
Chris-
Do you think there is much interest overall for such a vehicle in Germany? Is interest growing?
