GM seeks $2.6 billion for Volt, 2 Volt spin-offs
Don't pull the plug on the Volt yetGM has requested $2.6 billion in low interest loans to help support further development of the Chevy Volt and two new Volt variants. In total, that would bring GM's Energy Department fuel efficient vehicle aid requests to $10.3 billion according to Reuters.
This request is separate from the Obama task force conclusion that the Chevy Volt would not help GM become viable in the short term.

What? The Cadillac Converj and the Opel Volt?
Big deal.
GM isn't viable, and yet the DOE is contemplating $10+ billion for an automaker that might be heading into bankruptcy?
Shouldn't we see how things go before getting too far ahead of ourselves, or has the final outcome already been determined by the task force?
I don't know. Somehow I feel like some big charade is going on here. Maybe it's just me and my distrust of politicians.

Thanks Mike, thought I deleted that this morning.

Man! I am so sick of the Vaporware Volt! It's a sucking, yawning abyss into which billions of dollars are consumed with no tangible outcome other than that the cash disappears.
Even if GM somehow builds the Volt, I wouldn't even consider buying one. In the back of my mind, there would always be the nagging worry that I missed some line of fine print that would allow GM to confiscate the vehicle and crush it into a cube.
But wait... With all the tax dollars that have been flung at GM lately, I feel like they owe me a car.

I'm obviously more of a Volt fan than you are, Indigo, but I'm also a bit tired of all the Volt PR. It's just gone on for so long.
Even worse, as time has gone by, the Volt has begun to look less revolutionary.
And, as i've stated over and over, i just don't see the volt as an excuse not to build a direct prius/insight contender. it was never that revolutionary.
