Fusion hybrid? Whatever. Where's the F150 hybrid?

What message would a Ford F-Series hybrid send?

OK. As the government contemplates its cash for clunkers program I want you to guess the number I'm thinking right now. Sound crazy?

Really, it isn't that hard. The writing is in the picture. Think fuel economy.

Got it? That's right, it's 17. As in 17 mpg. For a 4-wheel drive it's 15. Add E85 and its 11.

Those are the stellar fuel economy numbers for Ford's top selling F150 Series pickup trucks - the top selling vehicle in America in March (and many other months).

Now imagine every American turning in their clunker for such a patriotic vehicle. Visualize the extra foreign oil America would need. Awesome! Right?

Imagine how many more Iraqs we could conquer to fuel our iron-triangled economy. Boy, we could end this recession right now.

Or, we can realize that 15 - 17 mpg is almost criminal and start turning these gas-guzzling monsters into hybrid vehicles, including plug-in hybrids. Maybe even full EVs. So, if Ford's hybrid cars are better, prove it by updating the segment most important to Ford's business - trucks - with a hybrid version.

GM has a hybrid pickup out there, the Silverado/Sierra comes in a hybrid offering. Might be worth a look if you're not committed to Ford.

I think 80% of Ford Truck owners might haul anything with it, once a year at most. They got a pu cause its 'country cool' ? They are so wide that they almost could not fit into anything else :(..That notwithstanding...take the very small Ford pu from about 7 years ago, plunk an escape hybrid 4 cyl combo in it and your off..it would be BIG hit with 1- young people 2- people that dont need commercial delivery sized transportation 3- Elderly would love to have small hybrid pu as well....
makes sense to me, thats why NO ONE will do it (cept maybe in Europe, thats where Ford and GM send all best looking, best mileage, most inovative vehicles for last 10 years).
Ill wager Hyundai will have a super neat Hybrid PU in 2 years on market.

Ford F-series is the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the 23rd straight year thru 2008.

Over the last 4 years, Ford F-series has sold an average of 725,901 trucks per year, Chevy Silverado 606,321 per year, and Dodge Ram 342,191 per year.

That is a total of 6.7 million trucks with terrible gas mileage sold over the last four years.

The hybrid technology is available now and has been for several years to make significant improvements.

The gas milage of these three need to change significantly with their 2010 models.

hey, speaking of Europe. Why are there no big pickup trucks in Europe? Do Americans really do that much more manly crap to need trucks? LOL.

toyota had a pretty cool truck concept that they are now contemplating... i think it was the FT-HS, or was that the sports car? dammit, shouldn't have gone to happy hour.

anyway, 6.7 million vehicles over the last few years averaging a good bit under 20 mpg? scary.
