Ford lithium research to begin paying off next year?
A lithium powered Escape at HybridfestStarting next year Ford is going to begin building a new generation of hybrid vehicles and electric cars based off of lithium-ion research that Ford has been carrying out with potential suppliers and university researchers. According to the DetroitNews, much of this new research will be highlighted this week at the SAE World Congress.
According to early reports, Ford will be able to produce lithium batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles that are not only 5 percent more efficient than NiMH batteries, but 30 percent cheaper to mass manufacture.
We say bring it on and let's end this 25,000 hybrid per year quota that Ford has been stuck on for years!

Until Ford gets a Union agreement to reduce retirees lifetime free benefits, it wont matter what they make, as their vehicles will be around 2k higher in cost/pricing, than toyota, honda or hyundai.....thats a big hurdle ....
I like Ford fusion a lot, but again its pricing is just too high.....and would only consider a hybrid.....but want ideally to pay around 19k drive out for auto, air, pwr windows/doors/locks...once they do that, I would def consider buying from them
If they could ever make a slightly smaller ESCAPE SUV model it would sell to college and elderly like HOTCAKES! Gobs of people want a HYBRID SMALL SUV for 'world class price' !!
well, a 30 percent reduction in manufacturing costs will certainly help.
i know Ford has renegotiated significant aspects of their UAW agreements, so i think they're in the best shape they've been in that regard. does more work need to be done? perhaps.
a unique, hybrid only Ford crossover, a little smaller than the escape, at prius pricing. i agree, it would sell like hot cakes.
