Boring: The new Honda Insight commercial?
The hybrid for all of us?Over the weekend I watched far more TV than normal, and I finally saw one - I don't know if there are more - of Honda's Insight hybrid commercials. It's a good commercial, advancing the idea that the Insight is a different kind of hybrid, a hybrid we can all afford.
Actually, its probably a hybrid more of us can afford, but let's not split hairs.
Besides, this vehicle should be cheaper than the Toyota Prius, as it doesn't offer quite as much car as the Prius. Nonetheless, I would like to see an even cheaper hybrid and I hope both Honda and Toyota follow up on plans for even smaller, cheaper hybrid cars.
But what really bugged me about this Insight commercial was, just as with the Prius, there is no sizzle.
Will any automaker ever offer an edgy hybrid ad?

Yes the commercial is boring!
and nope i dont consider INSIGHT to be 'good price' sorry...because I will not purchase a approx 20+(with ttl) brand new vehicle without cruise control....and cruise control for this vehicle comes ONLY in a 'package' and are you ready...for 2400.oo !
That makes it as expensive as MUCH better equipped, larger engine, much better mileage PRIUS..........
yes its great honda is starting to get ball rolling on decent hybrids below 20k however this is just the beginning of the race.....in 1 year there will be so many hybrids out there, it will be buyers paradise ! so wait if you can!
i wish i was that hopeful for all these new hybrids, but i expect limited production on most of these new hybrids, which will lead to dealer markups, etc.
sadly, we still have a long way to go.
My uncle owns a Prius. Very special and weird to drive in one. But for me, hybrids are just too expensive. There are so many small economical cars that cost less than 10k.
that's true, but the Prius has been called safer and more reliable by the likes of Consumer Reports, for example, than small cars like the Yaris or the Aveo, for instance. plus, there are also a number of cool high tech features on the Prius, not to mention a good radio, AC and automatic everything, unlike many econos.
still, if cost is the only option, then an econo car is the better deal.
nonetheless, those econo cars can't help the US end foreign oil dependency. they aren't enough to reduce CO2 emissions, if that matters to you.
an econo car is at least a lot better than a big guzzler though.
another option is getting to wait couple months and get a fully loaded slightly used 2010 Toyota Corolla XLE ...it gets almost hybrid mileage on hwy (37) and great in city as well(27). A new Prius with nice options like XLE(like moon roof) will roll off lot for around 27k....
that same slightly used 2010 would cost about 19k.....a 9k price savings...yea i know not exactly fair new versus slightly used..however the savings is phenomenal and you would have to drive about 300k miles in prius at 4.oo a gallon to make up the difference ...the 2010 corolla drives very well, is as big inside as Prius...can even get after market NAV put in for about 700 if want! Something to consider if in market for BIG SAVINGS in long run ..
