New Prius cheaper than expected?

Is the king of hybrid cars going to again shock the hybrid world with a cheaper than expected 2010 Prius?Priced the same as the current Prius

The new third generation Hybrid Synergy Drive is going to enable the 2010 Toyota Prius to achieve better fuel economy and better performance than the current Prius and all in a bit larger package. Likewise, it will offer a number of new, advanced electronic features. Thus, many have assumed the price of the new Prius will increase significantly.

But, what if it costs the same as the current Prius, at least at the base model?

The rumors coming out of Japan indicate that, at least for the Japanese market, the Prius will not be as expensive as originally thought. Since Toyota will continue the 2nd generation Prius, at pricing similar to the Honda Insight, is it unreasonable to assume that Toyota might try to match current Prius pricing with its new Prius?

We'll find out for sure quite soon, however, if true I think the sluggish hybrid sales chatter filling the auto world will quickly subside.

What is really 'awesome' is not Toyota or Honda at all! Its HYUNDAI! No I dont own stock in them or own one of their cars, but their new "BLUE" lithim POLYMER battery is about 2 FULL years ahead of either of its major competitors in efficiency, weight, retention of power and more...Hyundai is NOW selling this technology in Korea vis a vis "FORTE" ( a super sharp sedan that will sell BIG over here, as well as Sonata hybrid coming soon as well) Its a wonderful revolution that will force Toyota and Honda to lower their prices even more. Will that help ? Nope. Why? zBecause Hyundai (again) can ALWAYS and will continue to have cheaper labor costs, and State support, so that they will continue to offer FULLY LOADED state of the art hybirds for a many THOUSANDS less than a stripped down Toyota/Honda hybrid! It will be a fascinating competition to see T and H quake with such incredible technology offered by Hyundai! I truly think Hyundai will be a "world class" auto maker ( both in quality and warranty) within 1-2 years if not earlier. Who would have believed just 5 years ago such a thing would not be laughable ?? Wow.

Last I heard Hyundai doesn't have any plans to sell any of their lithium hybrids until 2011 in the US. That's a lot of time between then and now. Nonetheless, it will be exciting to see Hyundai get into the hybrid game.
