Hydrogen hybrid: Isn't the hydrogen highway closed?

Does hydrogen matter, even if it is a hydrogen hybrid? Now if I could only find that hydrogen filling station

So, Mazda has received permission from the Japanese government to start leasing the Mazda hydrogen hybrid. Cool, right, especially since this hybrid can burn both gasoline and hydrogen?

Still, now the President Obama has put the kibosh on hydrogen funding, isn't the hydrogen highway closed here in America? Does hydrogen still matter?

BTW, Honda is leasing fuel cells cars in California. It will be definitely much easier to do in Japan merely of the population density.

only a few hundred of them, though. i think bmw is also leasing a few hydrogen vehicles. and GM has its project driveway going.

moreover, there are supposed to be like 40 hydrogen stations in California within the next several years.

Still, without federal funding, which the Obama admin is going to significantly decrease, I think US interest in hydrogen will wane a good bit.

personally, i think it's a bit of a mistake. i think someone is going to crack cost-effective hydrogen production. perhaps it will come from some odd avenue, such as water desalination, but i think it's a mistake to underestimate hydrogen, but that's not a popular thing to say in the new green, ev world.

Well, the closest gas station to me is a Shell that became a Hydrogen station about a year ago. The West LA hydrogen gas station on Santa Monica Blvd. I saw a fill up of a small Honda fuel cell vehicle last night. Didn't recognize the model.

it's probably the old FCX - i think that's what it was called - which was really compact and looks totally different than the clarity, i've seen the vehicle on the freeway a couple of times over the years.

again, i don't think the hydrogen highway is closed. i'm being a little sarcastic based on the admins purported decision to move away from hydrogen funding.

california actually has a pretty ambitious plan regarding hydrogen stations.

Yup, the car graphics did say FCX, which confused since I didn't know there was an older model before the Clarity.
