EVs "major portion" of Ford lineup in 10 -12 years
Hybrids, EVs and more fuel efficient combustion engines"In 10 years, 12 years," according to Ford CEO Alan Mulally," you are going to see a major portion of our portfolio move to electric vehicles."
Additionally, Ford will offer hybrid vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, and significantly more fuel efficient internal combustion engines.
In the interim Mulally also noted that Ford can now make smaller cars in the US more profitably.

What's a major portion? 20 percent? 50 percent? 60 percent?
That's a pretty relative statement with a lot of time in between now and then.
What else can Ford say anyway? To say anything else would to run counter to what the White House expects from US automakers. So, if you're going to ever ask for Fed money, or part of the $25 billion to retool, you have to say these things.
I'll believe it when I start saying it.
Ford once said it was going to be making 250,000 hybrids per year by now. So far its been 25,000 hybrids per year.
Talk is cheap.
I think Ford is the only one of the Detroit-3 that has a clue. The Escape and Fusion are *real* hybrids. GM's BAS would not be a joke for $1,000 but for $3,500 it certainly is! Likewise, America needs an Escalade Hybrid as much as it needs a kick in the crotch.
It's refreshing to read that Ford plans on selling smaller, fuel-efficient cars too.
Ford has excellent, fuel efficient cars that it sells in Europe. They should start selling them in North America as well..
10-12 years?
What a joke.
Noz-
But that's pretty much the case for all the major automakers. Honda doesn't even have any serious plans for such vehicles yet.
That might not mean it's any less of a joke, but that joke is the entire auto industry, not just Ford.
