Everything but a plug. Tis a chame.
shame that is.
And I don't think Ford has any plug-in hybrid plans until 2012. Even then it's only about 5,000 PHEVs.
Does Ford know something I don't? Why are they shying away plug-in technology.
Their new Fusion is a great hybrid, but why not offer an alternate Fusion with a bigger battery and a plug? It will already travel 47 mph or so on electric only, so how hard could it be to offer a variant?
Well, Ford really isn't too far behind any of the other major automakers.
And, let's think about the Fusion hybrid for a second. Here'a car that Ford is only going to build 25,000 of because Ford has not made any serious investments into NiMH technology.
Wouldn't the Fusion hybrid have been the perfect vehicle to introduce lithium, as a conventional hybrid? It's a fresh roll out, so they could have taken their time.
Such a vehicle would be less battery intensive than a PHEV, but it still helps you test your batter in real world conditions while developing your supplier contracts.
It would have been great PR, and helps them kick their hybrid program into gear.
To me it should have been a no-brainer. I mean if you're not going to invest in NIMH then why not give lithium a try now?
Why?
Cost? Safety? Stupidity? It has to be something pretty serious.
The Escape is a great hybrid SUV, but I think it misses out on the space and functionality on the rear seat!
Will there be a Explorer Hybrid???
Cheers from Denmark (Europe)

Henrik-
If the Explorer survives the long run, it will have to have a hybrid drive. There was talk of such a vehicle in the past, but I haven't heard any new updates.
2009 Escape Hybrid keeps the engine running ALWAYS when AC is on. (Does not go into Electric Only mode.)
Will this be fixed on 2010 Escape Hybrid?
well, i wouldn't expect any major changes in the 2010. there won't be any major changes in the Escape hybrid powertrain until it is updated with Ford's new hybrid powertrain now found in the fusion hybrid.
