GM resets plans for Volt engine
Engine will eventually be made in AmericaWhen the Chevy Volt goes on sale in late 2010, it will come loaded with not only a foreign-made battery, but a foreign made engine. Fortunately, that should change some time in 2011, when GM adds Chevy Cruze and Volt engine production to its Flint South engine plant according to new reports.

The Volt is vaporware. It always has been.
I know you believe that, and you have every right to based on GM's past, but the Volt is real.
I guarantee it.
I won't argue that it can save GM, but GM will, minimally, build 100s of thousands of Volts - assuming the government keeps GM out of bankruptcy.
Ok let me see if i get this....
in 2010 there will be at least 4 very good Hybrids for sale by Honda and Toyota at a cost of about 19k base to 24k loaded with lots of extras.
Now comes GM's 'miracle car' that will travel less miles than any of the other hybrids (say vacation trip)....and it ONLY will cost DOUBLE (ests are 40k+)...
so mmmmm I can NOW purchase a better overall vehicle NOW from Honda or Toyota than what GM is to make in 2010 or later!
Even in 2010 Toyota and Honda with plug in lithium ion batteries will STILL be way better price and overall deal, than GM !
And this is suppose to inspire the average american to 'buy GM' ??????
Please...:( give me a break
Again, I guarantee the Volt will have no problem selling for the first few 100,000 vehicles.
Is the Volt the right technology?
Perhaps not, but the Volt is not comprable to the Prius, Insight, etc.
The Volt is a pure electric vehicle that uses gasoline to create electricity to extend its range. For many short distance commutes the Volt makes a lot of sense for those trying to completely minimize their foreign oil and/or global warming footprint.
Is it the most effective technology towards achieving this? No, but part of addressing that problem has to do with range anxiety, and that's what GM is trying to tackle with the Volt.
