GM's plans for the bailout money, for the future
Hard to get excited about hybrids like the TahoeJust checked out a video that GM is using to trump up support for the bailout of the US auto industry, something I already support, although tentatively. Yet, this video demonstrates the problem with the Big 3 and with GM. Too much tomorrow. The next big thing, such as the Chevy Volt, is never here today, it's always tomorrow.
No doubt, quality at GM has improved greatly over the years, and massive restructuring has been achieved and more is forthcoming. Cars like the Malibu are solid winners. And, next year, GM will have 9 hybrid cars available for sale, far more than anyone else. Yet, will any of them ever sell at least 50,000 units per year?
And, as exciting as the Chevy Volt is, it will still lag far behind Toyota Prius sales for at least another decade. In fact, while the Volt will be a game changer, it probably won't hit its game-changing stride until close to 2020. By then, it might not be quite as unique as it is today.
The Chevy Volt might be the best green vehicle selling at least 100,000 units per year in 2016, but America, at least those doubting GM, want to see GM challenge the Prius with a vehicle that can sell 100,000 units today.
Carpe diem, GM. Carpe diem.

GM has been about tomorrow for decades now. That's why many used to call them the manana company.
Unlike you, I don't find the Volt very exciting. It's a play from the same old playbook. Make a lot of noise about what you're going to tomorrow and do nothing today.
GM hasn't changed one bit and I don't think they ever will.
I agree, this whole idea of putting a the badge "hybrid" on such a disgusting dinosaur like a Tahoe is a classic example of the utter incompetency that thrives at GM.
Are you joking with me? A horrible, awful, tank-like PoS TRUCK with "Hybrid" becasue it has some similar technology and now mileage even reaches into the 20s???
Jesus, look at your EU operations, look at those mileage numbers there...
Hopeless. Wagoner and this whole jet-flying, lavish corporate-BSing bunch of clueless losers should go before any money is given them.
well, i am still willing to give GM a chance, although i think they need to take more serious action regarding fuel economy than just the Volt and dual mode hybrid suvs.
still, why can gm not only build efficient vehicles in Europe, but make a profit selling them?
the price of fuel, i think.
i blogged about this on my latest post. i don't blame GM any more than i blame congress or the american people.
the cheap cost of gas has stupifyed america. and blame for that can't solely be placed on GM
