Silverado - Another $40,000 GM hybrid

Hybrid pickup trucks are finally here, but they are expensive. At least it makes functional sense

I've always believed that the first Big 3 hybrid needed to be a hybrid that competed directly against the Toyota Prius. Instead, the Big 3 focused on hybrid SUVs, and for GM and Chrysler, huge hybrid SUVs. Yet, even if you were going to make a large hybrid, shouldn't it have been a pickup - a vehicle some absolutely need?

Anyway, GM is finally ready to begin selling the Sierra / Silverado hybrid trucks. The GMC Sierra hybrid will list from $39,365 - $45,500 depending upon the model. The Chevy Silverado hybrid will list from $38,995 - $45,130.

Silverado not really a Hybrid, we are being duped! The vehicle is not propelled by an electric motor. In fact the only tasks the mid mount starter/generator is just that. fuel savings are achieved by eliminating the alternator,a/c compressor, and starter from the base engine hence your fuel savings added to that they have to overcome the extra weight now from all these new components. The prius is the right way of doing hybrid.

i'm a huge fan of the prius, but the silverado hybrid can more than double the silverado's fuel economy in city driving, while providing full towing and payload capabilities.

does it do it cost-effectively? i don't think so. do most people really need such a vehicle? probably not.

You're totally right, I'm definately gonna drop my idea of getting a Silverado or Sierra hybrid and go right to the prius.

anyone know the towing capacity on the Prius? Because without the truck I'll need to pick up a trailor to carry all my tools in.

Did either of you stop to think for even just a moment that this isn't a vehicle for the everday joe that wants to buy a Hybrid vehicle? Believe it or not, there's those of us in the construction industry that have been long awaiting the car manufacturers to produce a hybrid vehicle.

For the everyday Joe, yes the prius is a better option, but like I said, these trucks are not for the every day Joe, they're for the men and women who need and rely on a dependable work truck everyday to do their job and would like to have the option to save a little at the pump like the rest of the North American world does.

Cheers

Did either of you stop to considers the thousands if not millions of men and women who need and rely on a dependable pick up truck to do their job every day?

This isn't a vehicle for the every day joe, this a vehicl for those who need it, and believe it or not, there are a lot of us.

It's about time the industry started putting out hybrid trucks, because i'm sorry, but i just can't fit all my tools in the all mighty Prius

Chris, can i have some of that weed you're smoking. It must be good stuff.

The silverado and sierra hybrids have been for sale for almost a year now, yet almost no one is buying these hybrids.

why? hmmmm. the $50,000 price tag?

where are those millions of consumers you're talking about?
