Toyota not interested in diesel hybrids
Not unless diesel fuel costs go downToyota is not interested in developing diesel hybrid vehicles due to the high cost of diesel fuel according to Green Car Congress. Even though diesel is the dominate fuel in Europe and many competitors are preparing diesel hybrids for the European market, Toyota believes gasoline hybrids still are more cost effective.

I don't blame them...diesel is the biggest scam of the century IMO....
4.49?
What a bullshit!

That's just an old picture. The gasoline prices have also gone down.
The point is that diesel costs more than gasoline.
On the other hand you could be happy about the other prices going down. Of course no company will ever develop something that will be too expensive to use..
it's just a very strong stance for toyota to take considering the market share of diesel in europe, and the fact that all major european automakers are now working on diesel.
Toyota's main small diesel problem is that it doesn't have a strong background in R&D for the technology (none of the japanese makers do). That will change rapidly if required.
maybe, but like other US automakers, toyota seems to believe that technologies, like HCCI for instance, will result in turbo-charged gasoline engines that will basically perform just like diesel engines, but with much less pollution.
i'm not sure how close they are to such engines, but GM has claimed that its close. toyota usually isn't so vocal until they are ready to launch, but i'd imagine that toyota could be close as well.
still, it seems diesel hybrids will eventually make sense in europe. the europeans are starting to build them. why wouldn't toyota?
