Mitsubishi adds plug-in hybrid to plug-in portfolio
EVs and PHEVsMitsubishi has now added plans to develop plug-in hybrid vehicles in addition to its previously stated plans to develop electric vehicles such as the iMiev according to GCC.
"The development of a plug-in hybrid comes on the heels of the auto maker’s plan to launch a mass-produced electric vehicle [the iMiEV] next year in Japan... Masuko noted that the plug-in hybrid will be better suited for longer distances than the electric car."

More great news!
I wonder if Mitsubishi has a debut date? I am thinking 2010! :)
The iMiev is supposed to go on sale in Japan next year, so late 2010 is probably a good guess for the US market, as far as the iMiev.
At this point it isn't clear how developed the Mitsu plug-in hybrid is, but the batteries for both the EV and the PHEV are being developed concurrently, so it doesn't seem the PHEV should lag the EV much.
That's great news about the higher performance of hybrid vehicles..
One of hybrid myths is be suited for city driving and underpowered..
