I purchased a 2008 Tahoe Hybred 3 weeks ago. I have owned 4 other Tahoes and this one is the best ever. As of this date I am getting 150 miles more from a tank of gas. This averages out to 5 more MPG. The car shifts so smoothly you don't feel it shifting. The fit and finnish is far superior to anyother Tahoe I owned. The interior is like a Escalade's. I expect the mileage to improve as the car gets broken in. For people who like a large SUV the Tahoe Hybred is the way to go. What other Suv can you keep the large size, V-8 engine, confort for 7 passengers and get 22 MPG?
I love my Chevy Tahoe hybrid and I tire of people complaining about its large size. I also own a Prius and a Highlander Hybrid. I drive smart and get 50+ MPG in the Prius, 30 MPG in HiHy and 25 MPG in the Tahoe Hybrid. The Prius is a great commuting vehicle, but for most families, it simply cannot be the only vehicle. Imagine picking up visiting relatives (and their luggage) at the airport in a Prius. Not happening! The Prius is what you buy if want the second car. People complain about SUVs because of their horrible mileage (and mostly city mileage, at that). Yet, to haul around your family and your stuff, you need something of substance. So, GM adds a hybrid SUV that gets pretty decent mileage and allows your family to still function. It drives great and performs wonderfully. If you drive smart, you can get it up to about 28 MPH in full electric mode. It’s a horrible shame that this came to market during this recession and will probably never catch on. It is a nice option to have if the Ford and Toyota hybrids leave you wanting a bit more space or ANY towing capacity. I almost wish gas prices would go back up to make people seriously consider this among their purchase options.
I have had my Tahoe Hybrid for 4 months and have had nothing but trouble. It has been in the shop almost a month of that total so far...this last time the power brakes went out while I was driving, no one seems to know how to fix it. I am not the only person to have this problem.
The fit and finish is impressive, but what's the point if it never runs? GM seems to be using the consumer to test their engineers work.
Please let us know how GM resolves this problem.
Owned my 2008 Tahoe Hybrid for 13 months now, paid $45,500, loaded. Getting 19 mpg avg. with a mix of city / highway. No problems. Owned a 97 2dr tahoe for 10 years before this one and the hybrid is a big upgrade in fit & finish. Very smooth ride & control. Lots of complements on the style. My only wish (other than 50mpg) is that it had a plugin option.
