2010 Toyota Prius Pictures Released

Still looks like a Prius

Some new images of the 2010 Toyota Prius have been flooding the Internet since PriusChat posted them late last night. Sadly, the new pictures don't come with any new details.

We know the 2010 Prius will initially use NiMH batteries, but the hybrid components have been reduced in size and weight. Thus, the third generation Hybrid Synergy Drive will make the 2010 Prius more fuel efficient than the 2nd Gen. Prius. And, when coupled with a new 1.8L engine, the Prius will also be faster.

Part of the increase in fuel economy and performance might also be achieved by the rumored use of extensive composites in the Prius. Not only do composites reduce weight, but they enable further reductions in aerodynamic drag. Hopefully, this becomes a trend in hybrid cars.

In addition to a slightly wider and longer body, the 2010 Prius will also include new telematics and a more advanced dash.

Unfortunately, there is no confirmed pricing yet available on this vehicle.

What are telematics?

My biggest question is, "Where is the plug"? :)

Telematics is becoming a broad term in the auto industry. Specifically it refers to computer and wireless technologies, such navigation, GPS, bluetooth, etc. Some people include the advanced hybrid systems information in that definition as well.

And, jabroni, i always know what your big question is. In late 2009 you'll have to be a fleet to get your plug-in, otherwise, you'll have to take a conventional 3rd Prius. Some time in 2010 - your favorite year - Toyota is supposed to launch the plug-in version.

My mistake. I'm suffering a nasty cold right now. I was looking over my old posts on the new Prius and found this, "The new Prius will move from a 1.5-liter inline 4 to a 1.8 inline 4 engine that adds 25 extra horsepower for a total of 100 hp. Combined with a new, advanced electric motor that new Prius will offer as much as 160 hp compared to today's 110 hp."

Thanks for pointing that out. I think I should just go to bed.
