Help? My Altima hybrid is "revving"
Just an annoying bug or a problem?Whenever new technologies come out, there are always bugs. Sometimes they are serious, sometimes they are just annoying glitches. Back in July I wrote about some problems with the Altima hybrid that some owners were having. Well, a few have continued to report their problems via our Nissan Altima hybrid testimonials.
The problem seems to revolve around extreme "revving" when the battery loses most of its charge, but often at add moments.
Obviously, this could be a battery problem, a software glitch that causes the Altima hybrid to crudely manage the sweet spot of the battery pack. Or, maybe its just overly aggressive drivers in hybrid unfriendly terrain, such as mountains. Any similar experiences?

I have been driving my Altima Hybrid now for nearly 5000 miles. It works pretty much as advertised.
My only complaint is that I wish there was a switch, so that I could make the car go into mode more aggressively. As long as you don't hit the "gas" pedal hard, you can the car to stay in EV mode.
Sometimes, the Toyota Camry is also revving. This revving is quite predictable: if you drive in a slow traffic for a long time, especially with an AC, the gasoline engine does not kick in for a long time, or does it quite occasionally. Finally, when the battery is pretty depleted (which can be easily seen on the monitor) the engine kicks in and revs pretty viciously.
LB - I've noticed such revving as well, it seemed pretty obvious to me why this was happening. Also, it wasn't extreme revving.
These people seem to believe there isn't a reason for it to happen, for instance, that there is no reason for the battery to have lost so much of its charge.
Still, one could imagine that very aggressive drivers could make the hybrid powertrain produce something similar more regularly, especially with high AC use and tough driving conditions.
Then again, there could be a bug in the software that manages the battery if its happening when it seems there should be no reason for it to happen.
My Ford Focus surges when I turn AC on/off...and at odd times when I'm parallel parking...well...you can imagine the results.
Hey...and this happens to a technology around now for 100 years! Well..perhaps Ford hasn't quite mastered it yet.
noz, that's pretty funny.
My altima hybrid also revved by itself when i come to stop or when it switches from gas to electric.
I took it to west covina nissan dealer, they replaced the bettery(big one)and it's fine now.
