Ford "far along" to "really fuel efficient vehicles"
A lithium powered Escape hybridWhile telling Inforum that Ford was doing well in these tough economic times, Alan Mulally also stated that Ford was "far along" in its plan to make new, efficient vehicles.
"I was really pleased with the reception we got for all of the work we are doing on fuel efficiency, from EcoBoost (a turbocharged yet more fuel-efficient engine) to hybrids to electrification," he said. "I don't think many people realized how far along Ford is on an agenda to make really fuel efficient ... vehicles."
How would we know? Where are some concrete plans? When is Ford going to produce more than 25,000 Ford Escape hybrids per year? Talk, talk, talk.

Yeah my thoughts exactly....all talk..not cigar....
Mulally is full ot shit.
What's up with all these plug in Escapes So Cal Edison got from them? Or did that have nothing to do with Ford and everything to do with a retrofitter (A123 Systems I believe?). How are they performing? What's the hold up? Why can school kids convert their Escapes to Plug In, but a huge turd like Ford can't put one out NOW!
I think the SoCal thing was mostly PR for Ford. Sure it's great for SoCal, but how much does this data help Ford develop and sell PHEVs?
GM, for instance, is working with more than 30 utilities right now. They are working with multiple battery makers and doing extensive battery testing.
What battery companies is Ford working with? Are they working on any advanced batteries?
It seems as if Ford is intending to license both the hybrid technology and the battery technology from others.
noz - i think mulally was a huge improvement, and he was handed a pretty big pile of it. he hasn't been there long enough to turn it around yet.

All Ford has to do is just adapt their European cars to comply with American crash-test standards. Voila! Fuel-efficient cars for North America!
Why the heck haven't they already done that?
Ford Motor Company announced a new technology like powertrain, fuel and energy technologies.

Used Cars
Such as?
I think Susan is obviously just trying to sell used cars.
indigo - us automakers have said that such cars just aren't profitable in the US.
my question would be: not profitable, or just not as profitable as big suvs? at least as profitable as big suvs were just a few short years ago.
nonetheless, the ford claims that it is going to make their small cars more universal, so that they work in both europe and the us, for instance. so, some of that is coming, eventually.
