Chrysler to plug-in into the future in 2010
A wrangler plug-in vehicleBehind the Wheel has a great piece this morning on Chrysler's new plug-in vehicles. Yesterday, Phil LeBeau was able to drive a couple of Chrysler plug-in prototypes, such as the Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid that functions very much like GM's Chevy Volt. LeBeau was also able to test drive the Dodge EV sports car, an all electric vehicle that left LeBeau impressed.
Even more surprising, Chrysler intends to roll out some of these vehicles by 2010.
Check it out. There is supposed to be a link to view all these test drives, but it wasn't working when I made this post.

blah, blah, blah. Chrysler is just trying to justify its right to its part of the automaker bailout. I mean if taxpayers are going to fund and back the loan to build such vehicles, what has Chrysler got to lose?
i think that's a fair point. without the loans, Chrysler probably can't afford to move forward with these vehicles.
additionally, which vehicle is actually moving forward?
an electric sports car? dumb idea if your goal is broad sales.
an electric minivan? probably won't be cost effective.
a range extended SUV? if bad circumstances could bring Volt EV range to less than 20, then it could probably bring such an SUV to less than 10.
this is a step forward, but I'm still not all that excited.
this still feels like more hype than reality.
I wonder if those series hybrid plugins will be EFlex licensees?
From what it sounds like Chrysler is going alone. Recently Vice Chairman Tommy LaSorda stated "We believe in the saying, 'Actions speak louder than words," and he implied that Chrysler was just as far along as GM on this technology.
They are still working with several battery suppliers, which is the critical issue, so it seems there won't be a partnership between these two companies, at least for now.
Wait, tommy lasorda is vice chair of Chrysler?
same name, different people.
you know what, i've pooh-poohed Chrysler, but I feel like a bit of egg is on my face.
right now, Chrysler is losing far less money than GM, and if they really are as far along with their EVs and PHEVs as GM, they might be very well positioned for the future.
that would be shocking, but a nice.
