I hate gas guzzlers
Gas guzzler.Gas guzzler, gas guzzler, gas guzzler.
You see them everywhere. Huge SUV gas guzzlers. Luxury sedan gas guzzlers. Sports car guzzlers. Gas guzzlers everywhere.
But driving a gas guzzler is fun. It's about more than transportation. It sends a message. It tells people you can afford the gas. It makes you feel powerful. It can make a dork feel cool. A short person tall. A poor person rich. An impotent man virile. It's not about driving. It's about perception. And, since life is so short, why shouldn't you just do what you want, drive what you want?

You see them everywhere. Huge SUV gas guzzlers. Luxury sedan gas guzzlers. Sports car guzzlers. Gas guzzlers everywhere.
But driving a gas guzzler is fun. It's about more than transportation. It sends a message. It tells people you can afford the gas. It makes you feel powerful. It can make a dork feel cool. A short person tall. A poor person rich. An impotent man virile. It's not about driving. It's about perception. And, since life is so short, why shouldn't you just do what you want, drive what you want?
Sure gas guzzlers can be expensive, especially when refilling. But, its not worth having if its not expensive, right? A great car or house. A sexy wife. If you want a good life, you have to buy it, right?
Eat McDonalds all you want. Smoke. Drink till your liver explodes. Because you can just buy the next great pill to fix you right up. Or, have doctors perform millions of dollars worth of surgery - hey, man, you have been paying your insurance premiums for years. You deserve it. Every American deserves millions in health care. It's our right. Who cares if health care fails the next generation. Responsibility? Life is too short.
Besides, gas guzzling is an inalienable American right. Just because it funds terrorism has nothing to do with Americans. That's a Saudi problem. The environment? Please. 99 percent of species that have ever existed are now dead. Global warming is natural. Man made global warming is a hoax. And acid rain never killed anybody. It's evolution. Ok, evolution isn't real. It's our god-given right.
If governments want to torture and hold their people hostage and sell us cheap oil, then we should buy it. Stealing is even better than buying, especially when you can pay others to do the dirty work. Life is too cheap to worry about how purchases affect other people. It's not America's problem.
So, just buy a gas-guzzler. Find a good blood diamond for your plastic enhanced, face-lifted wife. Never buy hybrid
cars. Forget electric vehicles. There is enough oil to last forever.
Too much smog? Too much asthma? Too much cancer? Too much war?
Who cares? Life is too short. Put on a gas mask, pop a couple of pills, get a little chemo and drink and smoke the truth away. Life is too short to worry about consequences, responsibility, reality. Besides, when you're on your death bed, just give the church a big chunk of cash - you can always just buy your way into heaven. Besides, we're Americans, its our right.
So buy your gas guzzler. Don't worry about fuel economy or emissions. Life is about having fun. Don't think about the future. And if you can't afford it, steal it. Rob for it. Because if you can't buy a good life, then you can't have a good life. And every American deserves a good life, no matter how much pain or hurt it causes others. Life is too short to worry about such trivial matters.
That was quite a rant! But I like it. I'm basically saying this stuff all the time to my wife. She's probably sick of it, but I do it anyway ("It's our God Given right as Americans" is one of my favorites that I use all the time!)
LOL...
OK Dahc....I know you either got very little sleep the night before OR someone else sabotaged your blog account...probably Karl on Cars....and went for it.
But driving a gas guzzler is fun. It's about more than transportation. It sends a message. It tells people you can afford the gas. It makes you feel powerful. It can make a dork feel cool. You got that right...a gas guzzler is a penis extension for people who have very small members.
These vehicles are made for people with very little to no understanding of cause and effect.
It's a real shame such folk can procreate...it sort of puts a damper on Darwin's theory of evolution...probably because they are equivalent to what we know as cancer cells.
It's OK to drive what you want. This is a free country.
However, Many families have lost loved ones, who died in the Middle East, protecting our oil assets.
My question is:
If YOU had to sacrifice a family member in the Middle East in order to drive what you want.....
Would you feel the same way?
That's the whole point. No one feels any accountability of pain for their actions. Therefore they feel they are entitled when they are not.
People do not have the right to drive and pollute as much as they want. Free country doesn't mean free to destroy THE environment....not YOUR environment...THE environment. It belongs to no one. It belongs to everyone. If some bozo next to me is putting out 5 times the pollution driving a Hummer...who the hell does he/she think he is to have the RIGHT to do that? Were they born more special?
Your statement is correct. If people FELT the pain they are inflicting on others and themselves more directly, they'd wouldn't do 95% of the things they already do.
Imagine someone came and dumped all the waste you produce every single day into your living room. I'll put my paycheck on the line and bet that people will stop throwing stuff away less.
There's no accountability for anything in this country except for how much money anyway is making. That's it. This is what this country has deteriorated down to....you could be dying on the street and no one will help you if you don't have money or insurance. They'd prefer you die.
Yet we sit here and are proud of this complete, utter social disaster.
Well thank goodness for the blogs. It keeps our little boy's busy pretending to be grownup writers and and out of the xxx rated "Momma's Boy" web sites. Dont worry Boy's Mama will bring your supper down to your apartment in the basement. Just put your apron's on and clean up a little ok Dear?
Amen. By no means do I come out completely guilt free on the things that make us "American", but I at least I see the problem. Just because you can afford to have 20 kids and can afford to use up all the food and natural resources to sustain that many kids (whom will most likely have 5-10 kids of their own), doesn't mean you should. Should we legislate it? No. It's something that free, forwarding thinking, democratic society should be able to figure out on their own. But we don't. I sit hear listening to CNBC and all the money whores (money is the only thing that matters) call for more drilling to help out our economy via gas and oil prices. Why can't we, as people, a society, or a nation, just do what is the best thing to do?
Shane-
That's the best you can do? LOL!
BTW - This rant was a play off a rant done by Edmunds.com entitled 'I hate hybrids' by the Mechanic.
Excuse us bloggers for challenging the mainstream press. They certainly haven't deserved to be challenged, right, Shane?
Shane's gas/oil hedge fund portfolio must be doing well right now. Why are you on the blog, yet critisizing it? Oh, I forget, your an American, it's your God Given Right.
I think Dahc is being facetious...I pretty much know (or hope..after being on this blog for a while now) that he is just playing devil's advocate....perhap's to attract the real right-wing termites?
In other news, it's a sad day in US history that McCain is apparently up 5 points on Obama...very sad indeed.
Good thing I got my Canadian residency when I did.
noz-
I know a lot of left wingers that are gas guzzlers as well.
As you and anon have pointed out, we basically judge the value of life by paychecks. Money has become the only thing that matters.
Check out the size of the shoppers at your local WalMart, check out their viewing habits on tv, and don't be surprised at what the American public likes as far as its automobiles.
As far as the McCain-Obama election: it's the electoral count that counts. I'd suggest that anyone who feels a momentary setback in emotion check anyone of the many websites that look at the current state-by-state tallies.
I love this facetious retort to those Edmund's pieces. Thanks for slapping those guys around a little. Their pieces against hybrids were cynical blustering, playing to the prejudices of their audience by demonizing the other, and you nailed that in your satire. Well done!
You may also be happy to know that I gave that Karl on Cars some heartache too...what a douche.
Its really sad to see most of the people don't think from environment friendly point of view. They buy what ever they can afford. Hindsight, even I feel that I should not have done that. People in US always earn for big stuff, big homes, big cars and eat more than needed. In some places, thinking environment friendly manner is not even cultivated. I think Nature knows how to balance it out, if human fails to take steps to conserve the nature.
No doubt that nature can sort this mess out, but that might not be good for humans. Then again, nature doesn't exist solely for humans. So, we should learn to balance ourselves with nature.
A high gas tax would be the best medicine to hold down gas consumption, and reward fuel-efficient cars. (U.S. cars consume twice as much fuel as European and Japanese cars) making it very difficult for oil-producing countries to gouge us again when the economy recovers.
(Oil price shocks and price manipulation by OPEC have cost our economy dearly each major shock was followed by a recession.)
Medicine doesn´t always taste good, but sometimes we need it.
(short term pain for long term gain.)
Couldn't agree more Zev.
So, it's agreed...all the liberal Hollywood types who drive around in Lambos, limos and Hummers, who fly around the globe on private jets, and who use up vast amounts of resources to create movies and TV shows that have no intrinsic value are all evil.
Looking at true fuel efficiency, a typical family sedan would have to get about 121 mpg to match the pound-mile per gallon of a loaded semi, so driving an 18-wheeler is technically more fuel efficient than a car. And don't get me started on trains.
And we all agree that those gas guzzling compacts, sub-compacts, hybrids and motorcycles are just ridiculous. Anything that burns gas is evil. Everyone knows we should walk everywhere or ride a bike. I just can't get over the smug look on a hybrid driver's face while I'm stuck using the slowest form of public transportation...the sidewalk. Who do those people think they are?
I assume everyone here is using a computer powered by solar panels (nevermind that they require lots of water to remain clean) or perhaps bird-killing wind generators. It would be hypocritical of us to be using electricity that came from a polluting coal source, and I know not one of us smarties would ever be guilty of hypocrisy. Maybe our electricity came from a fish-killing hydro generator. No matter...we are immune to criticism because we claim to care.
And since we're all so concerned about pollution, I will assume we are all vegans. Everyone knows eating meat is the worst thing you can do to the planet. Gosh we are so smart and caring.
Liberals hate powerful, comfortable, full-size American cars due to the fact they really hate America. It's none of their business what anyone drives.
how do you feel about Blood Guzzlers

Hybrid cars are awful! To produce one hybrid car uses enough energy and resources to run an average car for 7 years! And also you get more mpg and less emission from a vw golf diesel! Hybrid cars are slow, heavy and woefully inneficient. Now hydrogen fuel cells are something that we should definitely be working on. No emissions, no use of resources as hydrogen is the most abundant substance in the universe, and no mechanical worries as the motor has ONE moving part!!
Some of these comments are unbelievable. Hybrid cars are awful! To produce one hybrid vehicle uses enough energy and resources to run and maintain a normal vehicle for 7 years! To extract, refine, and form the nickel for the batteries is a mammoth task, and is woefully inefficient! And then you still only get 70 mpg maximum! I can get nearly that much from a vw golf diesel. As far as pollution is concerned, over farming is the main factor for greenhouse gases! Millions of cattle crapping and farting all day produce more pollution than all the vehicles on the planet combined. So whats the solution? Kill all the cows? Then the enviromentalists WOULD have a fit. Get a grip people and drive what you want. But maybe cut back on the beef!
7 years. That's complete nonsense.
Sure building a hybrid takes a bit more energy because of fewer supply chains. That's the case for almost every single technological advancement. I'm sure you've heard of economies of scale?
Supply chains don't happen over night for emerging technologies. So, let's get real. Technological advancement couldn't happen without short term inefficiencies.
I mean check out the history of the computer. Using your logic we should have scratched computers at the beginning for their gross manufacturing inefficiencies.
Also, check out the EPA's fuel economy ratings. The Prius versus the Jetta TDI clean diesel - similarly sized vehicles - on the highway they are similar in fuel economy. In the congestion, there is no comparison, the Prius blows away the TDI.
So, let's stick to verifiable facts.
And hybrid inefficiency? Are you totally crazy?
Hybrids achieve significantly better fuel economy and significantly reduce emissions compared to their conventional counterparts. And the battery is almost 100 percent recylcable.
How does that result in inefficiency?
And your beloved fuel cell vehicles? Hello????? Most fuel cell vehicles being developed are fuel cell HYBRID vehicles!!!
So you hate hybrid, but you believe in fuel cell hybrid vehicles?
How does that make sense?
"To extract, refine, and form the nickel for the batteries is a mammoth task, and is woefully inefficient!"
I think you need to upgrade your research.
First of all, this whole nickel story started as a result of a faulty study carried about by CNW based on decades old data. However, you carefully google the research on this subject, you'll realize how out of line and out of context are your comments.
Second, the Nickel used by hybrids in the battery is almost 100 percent recyclable.
Third, every single automobile uses nickel in the steel to produce it. Lots of nickel is refined with or without hybrid cars.
Finally, hybrids are not about global warming as far as I'm concerned, they are about investing, TODAY, in the kinds of technologies that will end foreign oil dependency.
Diesel will NEVER end foreign oil dependency. Perhaps you should check out the Union of Concerned Scientists position on diesel as well.
And for the last several posters whom think this is some big liberal attack on gas-guzzlers, this article was published as a response to an Edmunds article titled "I hate hybrid cars."
In fact, it's a total, sarcastic play on that article.
The damage caused by America's foreign oil dependency is beyond question. So, all you proud gas guzzlers that claim global warming doesn't exist, so what?
The Pentagon, for instance, claims oil dependency is one of the greatest threats to American national security. So guzzle up! I mean, c'mon, foreign oil guzzling is about as anti-American, anti-freedom as you can be.
What more reason do you need to accept that foreign oil dependency is not sustainable and that America must innovate its way out of this mess as quickly as possible, or accept a future of nothing more than a military state with second world economy? How many more 9/11's? How many more Iraqs?
And, for the record, I do sometimes eat meat, but I've gone a more than a year at a time without eating any meat. While I own a car, I rarely drive. Instead, I've built my life around LA's public transportation system, or walk, or bike.
None of this was done to reduce my CO2 footprint. After 9/11 and Iraq, I decided that I had to reduce my foreign oil footprint.
What have you done to make America a better country?

Hell I didn't know cows give off NOx, CO, formaldehyde, lead, etc...that's news to me!
Dahc...
I love those douche bags who drive around in large SUVs and have the "Support the Troops" stickers on them and the American flag...
Can they get more stupid than that?
Noz-
My personal favorite is 'no blood for oil stickers' on the back of big gas-guzzlers.
Gas-guzzling vehicles' days are over.
Driving a hybrid and thinking you're doing anything for the environment is the equivalent of patting yourself on the back after emptying a water bottle at a raging forest firsts.
If you really hate gas guzzlers I am sure you will enjoy the song called Gas Guzzling SUV at www.dennisleclair.com on the music menu section.
Enjoy the tune!
