Chevy dealers pull a Toyota: Hybrid markups

Not you too?

With demand for hybrid cars skyrocketing well above supply, many Toyota dealerships have added markups to both the Toyota Prius and the Toyota Camry hybrid ranging from $3,000 - $5,000, and often including many dealers add-ons beyond the markups (more).

Recently, a few potential Chevy Tahoe hybrid buyers have also complained of dealer markups ranging from $2,000 - $4,000.

As I've posted in the past, not every Toyota dealer is adding markups to their hybrids. Believe it or not, some dealerships actually value long term customer relationships over short term profits. Shop around if you are running into hybrid markups, you just might find such a dealer.

i don't own a chevy, but i've driven the chevy tahoe hybrid a few times and its a great piece of technology, aside from the fact that it is a huge suv that i would never buy.

otto, if that was you posting as anon, then i wouldn't have been so harsh. if not, then i stand by my response.

i'm not trying to defend the tahoe hybrid. still, i try to cover all issues relating to hybrid vehicles. while i'm not a supporter of big suvs, i am a supporter of gm's dual mode hybrid powertrain.

i firmly believe that gm should have focused its first hybrid efforts on a hybrid car to challenge the prius. still, for the few consumers that need a large suv to haul families and campers, etc. i advocate for the hybrid tahoe ove the conventional tahoe.

Nope. Wasn't me as "anon>" GM lags in common sense first...that's what's most important. Almost as a second thought is their hybrid production. So much for technology if they can't produce a fifty mile per gallon suv or truck to haul trailers and boats. In a short period of time the boats, at least, will be a faint memory except for the likes of Tiger Woods and Donald Trump who couldn't care less about the price of gas. What America will soon need is a cheap gas efficient car for the %95 rest of us.

I would just never pay a "markup" for any vehicle, no matter how much I wanted it. I plan on buying a new hybrid in 2010 or 2011. If there's a $5k markup on a Prius and there's no markup on an Aura hybrid or a Civic hybrid, you can believe I'll buy an Aura or a Civic.
