JD Power - Americans ready for hybrid revolution

Build 'em and they will come

A new survey by JD Power indicates that American auto consumers are ready to buy hybrid cars according to a report that just aired on CNBC. The latest data demonstrates that 72 percent of American consumers are ready to buy a hybrid car. Even more interesting, even if the hybrid premium compared to a conventional vehicles is $5,000, 46 percent of consumers are STILL interested.

Yet the big 3 are giving away their trucks, giving away free gas for a year...wouldn't the UAW at some point start ripping them for not making a product that would keep their members employed? The Conspiracy Theorist in me says that the lobbyists lining the big wigs pockets is taking precedent over the paradigm shift that could make money for the company (shareholders and other pee ons and workers).

Wow. No kidding.

This is incredible news, in my opinion. To thing that nearly HALF the automobile consumers would be willing to pay a 5000 PREMIUM for hybrid technology is astounding. Obviously, public opinion is rocketing towards more gas efficient vehicles than in the past.

For what it is worth, Toyota could manufacture a 15 to 30 mile EV mode Prius at a 5000 dollar add on price TODAY. It would be quite simple, as all of the aftermarket plug in conversion products have shown. This way, we would not have to wait yet another two years....

I think this is a great development. It's about time too. But why the Big Three are dragging their heels is a mystery. Maybe their plants are too tied up with body on frame designs?

In any case, if you've ever wanted to own one, and still do, it's a great time to get a new SUV quote.

The Big Three only gave the average American what he wanted. It was not their job to educate the ignorant, the short-sighted or the frivolous. What the Big Three should have been was far-sighted and prepared. They weren't, and will pay the price, as will the average American who lacks common sense and operates only on a day-to-day, paycheck-to-paycheck plan. Now the average American is whining and ready to shell out the money he probably he doesn't have for the car a foreign company has built. American ingenuity.

otto-

what you say is true, but the government has been very sneaky about hiding the real cost of gasoline to help fund the military. this deceit cannot solely be attributed to the average, uneducated-by-the-government, person.

thus, combining ridiculously cheap gas prices with mulitbillion dollar advertising campaigns espousing the virtues of gas-guzzlers, and i have to cut average joes a tiny bit of slack.

yes, ignorance of the law is bliss, but i still have to place more of my blame upon corporate america, in this case the auto industry, and the lobbyist-controlled government. these people statstically own all of the wealth of america and yet they make up such a tiny percent. that's power.

the only thing we the people have is our vote which is splintered and polarized that our vote largely means nothing.
