Hybrids: Edmunds picks Camry over the Prius

Not the best hybrid?

When it comes to hybrid cars, the Toyota Prius is the king of hybrid sales. Still, when you consider the sale's success of non-unique hybrids, or the lack thereof, the Toyota Camry hybrid is the one exception. This apparently doesn't surprise Edmunds. Recently, the Edmund's guys put the Camry hybrid and the Prius to a number of tests to determine which hybrid they liked the best. Ultimately, despite the superior fuel economy of the Prius, Edmunds picked the Camry hybrid because it's a "more spacious, well-equipped true midsize sedan with normal styling and a familiar interior layout."

This is an obvious choice for everyone who has 5 thousand bucks extra.
The Camry Hybrid, on the other hand, is rated at 33 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. While this doesn't look impressive next to a Prius
All these estimations are pure bullshit. It IS 40-42 on the highway. Not 33! How can Prius make such a difference on the highway, when it has approximately the same weight and aerodynamics?

Still, the Prius is more fuel efficient than the Camry hybrid, but the Camry offers a more refined vehicle experience. For me, the Camry hybrid provides better lumbar support, which I need.

Ultimately, I think both are great vehicles. Anybody considering a Toyota hybrid should definitely give both a drive in my opinion. In the end the 'best vehicle' is never a one size fits all selection.

I own a Camry hybrid and love it. There are 5 in our family and we couldn't all fit in the Prius. I like the Prius, but the Camry fits better.

lb,

Simple! With the right size (1.5 liter) Atkinson cycle gas engine, Prius can get highway mileage of a 1.0 liter small car.

Disbelieve is just a test drive away.
