Oil: Democrats are morons

Of course, Republicans aren't any better

Led by Democrats, today a Judiciary Committee is going after oil companies and traders to reduce the price of gasoline. At the same time, many of these same Democrats are calling for the US to get off foreign oil. So, their plan is to 'manage' the price of gasoline lower to reduce foreign oil dependency?

High gas prices are changing consumer behavior in a big way. We're going smaller. We're taking public transportation. We're buying hybrid cars and other more fuel efficient automobiles - something Congress has never been able to accomplish, despite spending billions of tax payer dollars for this purpose. Even more important, massive amounts of capital are flowing into R&D for foreign oil dependency-fighting technologies.

Nothing will get America off foreign oil faster than high prices and new technologies. Ultimately, high gas prices, not Congress, are pushing America towards intelligent behavior. Yes it hurts, but in the long run, we'll be better off, unless Congress again screws it up.

as long as lobbyists continue to influence the rulers of our country nothing will change, even if the oil prices rise. it only mena sthe oil companies have to spend more money on politicians.

A drug dealer will lower the price of his drugs if he sees not buying or using less. The oil companies will do the same...OR they will promote other forms of energy as being far more expensive.

I don't think people realize that the government and corporations work together. Congress hasn't screwed up...they have done exactly what they would do...assist a drug dealer for kickbacks.

This is planned, this is purposeful, and this is the norm.

We either get used to it, or overthrow it...there are no other viable options.

i'm all for the over-throw. when in history has it ever been so easy to revolt against the status quo? over-throw is the essence of democracy, isn't it time america actually starts acting like a democracy?

i say a fresh start is in order.

oil built this country. do your history. if other countries don't know how to properly manage their oil, that's their fault for being stupid. don't blame congress for doing what the people want.

The people want? Since when has this government and the corporations done what "people" want?

Did we ask for polluted, congested cities? Did we ask for crap public transport? Did we ask for a progression of technology that has set us BACK versus forward? Do you honestly think the decisions auto and oil manufacturers are making is based on what people want? How gullible are some of you "capitalistic" mindsets? Seriously?

Oil companies knew they'd hit the jackpot...just like tobacco firms. I have no doubt whatsoever that they were sitting around in their boardrooms having discussions like "we've got these suckers by the balls...they won't be able to stop using this stuff and we can charge em whatever we want."

Please....what the people want....yeah...like I want 40% of every tax dollar I pay for from my hard earned money going to this war...that's what I want.

"doing what the people want"

I'll bet you ten to one, if you walk down the street and tap a stranger on the shoulder and he turns around, you're looking at an idiot.

i'd just like to say that i don't think most people are idiots, they just act like idiots. then again, maybe i'm just too optimistic.

Dahc...

I'm sorry to say this but I think you are too optimistic.

I'd have to agree with ANON...people are big idiots in general.

Aside from stupid politicians that are grand standing, countries limiting oil production, expanding world wide oil consumption and greedy oil company executive, has it occurred to anyone that the amazing shrinking dollar (thanks in large part to our huge federal deficite and trade deficite) may also be a major reason for the rising price of gas?

Obviously, the weakening dollar has a role in this mess. Still, I would say its our inefficient use of energy that is the main cause of the weakening dollar. If the US were much more energy efficient, I believe the dollar would be far stronger, and we probably wouldn't be in Iraq and hated by most of the rest of the world.

Hey, "shrinking US dollar" and "trade deficits," let's keep in mind an Iraq war that has to be paid for by borrowing money, not taxes. People will not stand for a tax raise. The Iraq war costs $5000 a SECOND!

People will not stand for a tax raise???? Hahaha...you must be joking...they've been raising taxes since day 1 and called it something else. Money IS taxes. At least I think that's what I send them every April 15th....
