$6.00 gas: Bring it on
As if there are no costs to cheap gasI just finished reading an article about gasoline protesters - people protesting the 'high' cost of gasoline. Some of these knuckleheads believe that protesting the high cost of gasoline can also raise awareness about environmental issues, as if cheap gas is good for the environment. Wow.
Today, Americans are funding a Hugo Chavez-led revolution in Columbia, for example, that seeks to fight against any American interests. Our thirst for cheap gas has funded hate against America around the world, and yet foreign oil dependency has no costs, despite the 10's of billions we spend every year on non-war costs just to secure foreign oil (Maybe we should pay that cost at the pump?)?
High gas prices are pushing solar power, biofuels, sales of hybrid cars and, even more important, R&D into new technologies that might forever end oil dependence in a cheap, clean and cost-effective way. High gas prices are breeding innovation. A return to cheap gas - ok, cheaper gas - will only lead to technological stagnation and greater pain in the future.
$6.00 gas. Bring it on.

"Bring it on," is what Toyota says after it engineers the slow release of the 2008 Prius after thousands have been ordered with a deposit. Most of those potential buyers don't know they'll have to pay an additional $400 even though they thought their deposit had set the price.
Toyota has been warning for months that a Prius shortage was looking possible if demand remained high. Demand has increased month-after-month and this year's Prius sales are blowing away last year's unexpectedly great sales. This is a normal part of the automotive business. If you made a deal with your dealer for a set price, then demand that price.
If not, it's just $400. Other hybrid models have had much higher price increases since last year.
$3.95 in central Ohio today. It was only a week or so ago that I saw anything over $3.70 for the first time in my life...sigh.
The world needs to cut demand on foriegn oil as it only puts money into the wrong hands. Money is power and america is handing it over. High gas prices does put an urgency to the masses to get off oil or at least decrease our dependency. This will be short term and somthing needs to be done now. Doubling the current car in americas MPG is a good start.
Gas prices are even higher by me, Jabroni.
No doubt that most Americans are feeling some pain from higher gas prices, but without higher prices, we've refused to change - even after events like 9/11 and the Iraq war.
The upside, however, is that high gas prices will result in more brands and greater numbers of the kind of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles you've been dying to get your hands on.
People can't control the price of gas, so they whine. If they looked at their total expenditure on transportation or fuel, they'd find a number they can do something about. Perhaps change your habits and use less. Choose a vehicle that helps you use less. Do SOMETHING besides whining about Arabs, oil prices, or the like.
Hey America: Turn off your tv news. Be responsible for yourself. Do something about your energy usage, consumption, expenditures, habits, ... and eventually your attitude.
and that's why i sort of cheer on high gas prices because, finally, americans are taking some action - maybe not a lot, but at least some.
hey, if americans shut off their TVs, they could save at least $50 a month on a cable - that's a lot more effective than any gas tax holiday.
Last night Gas price was $3.99/Gal. in lower michigan. Disel was hiting $4.59/Gal. I read on line that by 2010, gas could be at $7.00/Gallon. At $7.00/gal. it will not matter if the gas is blended with Ethanol, these hybrids will not be any better then a gas guzzler with gas at $4.00/gal. eather.
This crazy idea that running out to buy a hybrid is a great idea, is non-sence. After you factor in how the high payments are not going to win out over the cost of gas in run (long or short), and all the other costs of owning and opperating a new car, in just 3 years the cost of fuel my reach $7.00/gal.
Where is the salvation at?
People, These 200% proof moonshine (grain alcohol) cars are not going to solve anything. Cars that run on gas and E-85 is an illusionary trick to make you think we are getting some where. E-85 is STILL GAS with only 15% grain alcohol mixed into it. This reminds me of a drunk going to the bar/pub/tavern to drink his/her problems away by drowning it in the bottom of a booze bottel.
In essence, thats what we are doing to ourselfs. Now instead of paying $7.00/5th for booze at the liquer store to drink, were paying $4.00/gal to give a car a drink. haha. Talk about drunk driving? hahaha. I can see the illegal corn stills popping up in back yards everywhere. haha
Are we desperate? That we will grab at straws? Thinking that these gas/E-85 hybrids are going to save the day for us? There not. They are just going to put money in the companies pockets like always. Toyota is just praying on the little mans fears, hopes, and dreams of independence from oil and the depletion of oil in the world, and the idea of not being able to make ends meet because of high gas prices.
In fact did you know, that a cap full of acetone in your cars tank will not only help clean your engine, it will inprove your gas mileage buy about 5 mpg? it will. This is a little trick I learned off of You tube a few months ago. I tried it out because it was scientificlly sound. It does work too.
You can buy it at any cosmetic store or any place that sells cosmetics like Wal-marts.
I think the run up on oil prices is intentional. The companies and parties involved know that their days are numbered in terms of making so much money so easily from a bunch of sheep...so what do they do? Increase the price of the same goods they pay a stable price for themselves anyway.
They are making even more money than they did 3 years ago...and it will continue this way until the change over to other forms of propulsion/energy emerge. They know this damned well.
There are many many parties interested in keeping us on oil.
1) The oil companies...the profits they are making are astronomical and the motive is there to continue this trend. Anyone who doesn't want to acknowledge this has ZERO deducing skills.
2) The imperialist governments...US/Israel/UK..whoever else. War makes billions...billions. No one wants to face up to that or admit it. People are killed by the hundreds of thousands each year for the sake of war..perpetual, on-going.
3) Religious - now that the religious freaks have gotten a stronghold to this country from inside AND outside influences, the drive to the Middle East is stronger than ever.
Point being is that $6.00 is a phase we will pass soon because this well lubed machine is going to need it. We'll pay for it...but we'll do it anyway.
If Americans really cared about reducing oil consumption worldwide...particularly from China, the first car they pitch to them WOULD NOT be a freaking Escalade. Does anyone see the logic in that?
I just don't see how people can be in such denial about what the companies and governments and banks around the world are doing. Are we really that much in a slumber?
The thing is they all have self-interests but their interests overlap each other so that is why it seems that they are colluding with each other. It's not so much collusion as it is that is where the gold is. My God...at what price?
I don't know what will ultimately happen but all I can say is that at the rate we are going, it's going to end terribly. No one wants to face up to it and admit it....we'd all rather watch re-runs of Everybody Loves Raymond and make those frakkers rich while feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

That's pretty funny, especailly considering that E-Fuel Corp is building microfuelers for home use that i believe can be bought today.
still, i disagree with you regarding hybrid vehicles. if you need a new car, a hybrid is a great purchase. in los angelese, where i live, i can achieve almost 60 mpg regularly. in congestion, hybrids like the prius are incredible and the 3rd gen will be a good bit better. when they can add lithium, it will get much better.
now if your current vehicle is in good shape, it probably isn't worth it to trade it in on a hybrid, unless its a big gas-guzzler. i don't disagree with that sentiment.

many years ago i had to take a sales training class about overcoming objections when trying to sell to people. one of the first things we had to do was identify the type of person the prospect was. in most cases, most prospects want to be told what to do.
either by nature, cultural brain-washing or some combination of both, humans do have a herd mentality. hopefully, someday that herd is driven more towards intelligence and compassion.
