Toyota denies government paid for Prius
No government involvement?Earlier this week Chrysler's Jim Press claimed that the Japanese government funded the development and production of the Toyota Prius. Quickly, Toyota denied this rumor. "I can say 100 percent that Toyota received absolutely no support — no money, no grants — from the Japanese government for the development of the Prius," Toyota spokesman Paul Nolasco said.
Press, according to reports, made this statement hoping it would influence the US government to get more involved with US development of hybrid vehicles. Of course, as reader Dennis reminded me in the previous post regarding this topic - the US government did give US automakers 100's of millions each to develop such vehicles in the '90s.
Regardless, considering foreign oil dependence, for instance, should the US government help US automakers 'fund' advanced technologies?

What's the big deal even if Toyota did? It still built a techology that Chrysler can't build regardless.
Seems to me Chrysler just wants to scapegoat others for their lack of technical expertise and crappy cars. They truly do make garbage.
How pathetic!!Chryslers upset???Did they forget how we (the taxpayers) through the forces of congress BAILED THEM OUT!!! Because of lets see......corporate mismanagement lack of updateing to the demands of change do to the gas issues in the 70's!!
