PHEVs could eliminate foreign oil dependency - study

Maybe even end petroleum dependence

According to an MIT study, plug-in hybrid vehicles could “reduce or eliminate the transport sector’s reliance on petroleum.” However, without better energy production, PHEVs offer few benefits for reducing global warming emissions. In fact, according to the study, without better power generation, plug-in hybrids offer no gains over today's hybrid vehicles in terms of CO2 reductions.

Well, in my mind at least, I think we can tackle one problem at a time. Let's use PHEV's NOW to get off the foreign oil teat, then we can go to work on cleaning up our energy creation/production.

Instead of sending all our money overseas for oil, it could stay here in the States and be used for R&D in the energy sector.

Finally, I still do not believe studies that state using PHEV's pollute as much as our current hybrid vehicles, even if they are published by MIT. I may be hardheaded but the claim does not compute for me.

Me neither. MIT has had a long history of working with industry, IN FAVOUR of industry, etc...MIT is full of it anyway. It's all reputation under the bridge.
