Is McCain insane?

Off his rocker?

So, Hillary will bail out the US auto industry if needed as President, and John McCain wants to reduce the price of gasoline this summer to help oil the economy.

Isn't this the worst kind of pandering? Cheap gas is threatening American security, the economy - dare I say the health of the world - and McCain wants to make gas cheaper? Am I missing something? And what about all the deteriorating highways and bridges across America that need that tax money?

When politicians pander to the people, rather than deal with reality, what hope is there for the future?

Where were you when Congress was appropriating Road Taxes for their own pet projects.,.. sort of like the have also been doing with Social Security. Are you certain you are not a problem instead of McCain?

I'm not following. Certainly, I'm against earmarks, but this is about more than earmarks.

Part of the cost of a gallon of gasoline is a tax that is used to fix bridges like the one that collapsed in Minneapolis, for example.

Already Congress, for example, knows there isn't enough money to cover basic upgrades, etc on the US transportation system, thus a new tax on gasoline is kicking around Congress as a way to address this problem.

Travel around the US and most major cities and it becomes pretty obvious that the US transportation system is in pretty bad shape in many areas.

Who is gonna fix it, especially when McCain is proposing to take money out of the already underfunded program?

He is not insane. He knows his voters. The problem with democracy is that it works. The people don't want the discipline of expensive fossil fuels. They want cheap gas, and plenty of it.

Regardless of the military costs, the social costs, the national security costs.?

Do we have to wait until the Middle East completely explodes before we realize that foreign oil dependency has become a tinderbox?

Instead of educating people and directing them towards a path that will benefit them in the future, this guy is only making things worse.

I don't care if McCain knows the people he is pandering to or not...that's not the point. He's an irresponsible stupid idiot who is no better than any of the other scum that preceded him.

With people like McCain in office, how do you think the collective dumb shits who live in this country will ever know any better? Certainly not from their own efforts I can guarantee you that.

People in this country have become so so so dumb that they can't even see what they are doing to themselves, let alone the utter misery they are bringing onto others.

Democracy in this country DOESN'T work. Democracy needs an educated, smart, savvy, and knowledgeable set of voters for it to work...none of which is the case for voters in the US of A.

Good luck to you.

Pure election year pandering. Its like the divorced dad showering gifts on his kids when he gets them for his week in the summer. Kid ends up a spoiled brat. Dad clears his conscience. Storekeeper is happy. Completely unsustainable train-wreck in the making.
McCain sold out to the republican party machine. He traded his substance of 2000 for his new ego. Stealing from fixing our infrastructure to extend our bad consumption habits is a moral dis-service to this country and his own reputation. He may not have lost his mind, but he certainly traded it on an inbred used one.

love the "spoiled kid" analogy, kp. i think we can get noz to back up the idea that american consumers play the role of "spoiled kids" pretty well!

obviously, pandering is part of politics. still....

i wonder if either dems will try to one up McCain - that will be even more hilarious!
