Waxman claims White House blocked California EPA waiver
The White House blocked the EPA"Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chair of the House Oversight Committee, contended in a letter to EPA administrator Stephen Johnson that the White House scuttled a 300-page draft regulation that would have essentially required automobiles to average 35 miles per gallon by 2018 -- two years ahead of an energy bill signed into law on Dec. 19." Of course, had Congress acted responsibly over the last few decades regarding fuel economy, would the EPA have even mattered?

More people should learn about electric vehicles as a solution. "Zero emissions" is something that's going to be required by law one day (you know it will). Making the decision to go electric is far cheaper anyway, like 10 cents on the dollar vs. gas. (source: zapworld.com)

Waxman would be one of the members of Congress who would have wanted higher miles per gallon standards, as well as tax breaks for new, non-polluting technology in automobiles. The Repugnantcans, when they were in charge, and some Repuganantcans wearing donkey jackets, did what their corporate donors wanted them to do: stop progress and allow the polluting automaker and oil conglomerate status quo to continue. Now, finally, with global warming and sky-rocketing oil prices, Congress, with Democratic leadership, has been trying to do something. The Decider, though, has veto-proof numbers in the House and Senate, to kill whatever progressive legislation is passed, until fhe's finally gone. Beware of Executive Order #51: we might not even have a presidential election in November!
