Finally: Fuel economy rules!?

High gas prices re-shaping consumer psychology

A new AAA survey suggests that fuel economy is now the number one consideration for new car buyers according to the DetroitNews, and other data also supports the growing importance of efficiency in the mind's of consumers.

"The survey results clearly demonstrate that gas prices have reached levels sufficient for consumers to dramatically alter their driving behaviors and car-buying habits," said Kathy Harrison, vice president and chief public affairs officer for AAA Michigan.

So, if gas prices recede a good bit, will consumers return to their gas-guzzling ways, or have we finally wised-up?

I don't know who they are getting their info from....I see nothing but SUV's, Land Rovers, FX's, etc on the road....people have just psyched themselves out to buy repackaged garbage under the pretense that it's not an SUV.

Yes...I fully agree to this survey, now the trend is changing.
Nice to know that people are giving more priority to fuel economy nowadays!

Large SUV sales have slowed, but you are right in pointing out that many people have just downsized a little - often very little.

More important, I think that while fuel economy concern has increased in importance, taking real action has not.

Also, I think you have to remember that you and I live in Southern California. The auto world in which we live is quite different than the rest of the country. We live around the biggest bling-bling posers in the world, unfortunately.
