Chinese fuel shortages: The need for hybrid tax credits?
Give the Prius some creditsFor some in China today, there isn't any gas or any diesel. Maybe tomorrow, maybe not. If any fuel does come, it will quickly be guzzled away. China, inevitably, must find more foreign oil - a LOT more.
Hence, even if America becomes a little more fuel efficient in the next few years, increased consumption from China will easily replace our demand.
The need to go hybrid
Yesterday, I posted studies demonstrating America's increasing demand for fuel efficiency, and the desire for more fuel efficient automobiles. Yet, other studies indicate that while American consumers definitely want more efficient vehicles, they don't want to pay any extra costs for such autos - even if those costs are more than recovered during the life of the vehicle.
Thus, isn't it time for some temporary government intervention? Finish: Chinese Fuel Shortages: The need for hybrid tax credits

The Chinese I think will embrace alternative energy far more quickly and without prejudice unlike Americans. Americans can slam the Chinese as much as they want, and some for very good reason. But something American's can't do is criticize Chinese people for doing exactly what Americans have rried to force others to do without end...consume.
But I'm the believer that come the next few years, the Chinese will embarass Americans with being more concious and accepting of new alternative energies.
Watch this...how embarrassing for the automakers than ONE individual without a degree can make more impact than an entire corporation...Bob Lutz...take this and shove it.

I think you're too optimistic regarding China.
Today, China is building something like 1 new dirty coal power plant every 3 days. China is growing so fast it doesn't have time to embrace alternative energy quickly enough to match the growth of its energy needs.
Since China's auto industry is just emerging, I imagine that Chinese automakers will move to alternative energy quickly because of market forces. If China's car culture grows like America's, then there simply isn't enough oil in the world.
That's a reality that every automaker is starting to grasp, even your beloved GM. Just kidding!
noz-
I'm not getting anything when I click that link. Maybe its down temporarily.
What's Lutz say in the video?
Dahc,
It's not about Lutz actually...it's about some guy who without any formal education is modifying vehicles for people to be electric...and fine for everyday use.
The link seems to be working for me...did you copy all the numbers - the whole link?
