Toyota 1/x Plug-In: Just as buzzworthy as the Volt?
Toyota's 1/x plug-in makes a splash in ChicagoThere has been a lot of buzz at the Chicago Auto Show regarding the Toyota 1/x plug-in hybrid vehicle. The lithium-powered hybrid powertrain powering this flex fuel hybrid is 1/4th the total weight of the Prius powertrain - demonstrating the potential of lithium.
Also, using carbon fiber, the 600 mile ranged hybrid is also 1/3 the weight of the Prius. And while carbon-fiber is still very expensive, Toyota is investing heavily to make carbon fiber a reality.
Isn't the 1/x just as much of a revolutionary concept as the Chevy Volt? Isn't the 1/x just as buzzworthy as the Volt?

Toyota has proven it understands not just hybrid technology, but advancing new technologies when every other automaker says it can't happen.
Yesterday, hybrids. Tomorrow, carbon fiber.
The Chevy Volt might not be vaporware, but its a stupid concept. It's just too heavy.
I think its just as buzzworthy of the volt.
But its not as flashy as a Volt, hence the enthuasiasm isnt as great.
Nissan has gotten tons of free PR and press from the Nissan GTR - yet few can afford it.
I think if Toyota makes it, it will sell. Volt, will have lots to prove before it can do that.

True, couldn't have said it better myself. For right now, Americans trust Japanese auto makers with their life and to be honest, it hasn't let us down. American car companies are still struggling with problems Toyota and Honda resolved in models 10 years ago or more. I don't know how mnay people I've heard tell me their Focus is a piece, and it goes through tires every year and Ford's idea of updating their cars is adding more cup holders.
