Intel Director: Oil major threat to America
Foreign oil dependency rules!According to the National Director of Intelligence oil is largely at the root of most of the major security threats to America, to America's freedom. So get out there and buy your gas-guzzlers, America, that's what freedom is all about, right? The freedom to destroy ourselves is the best freedom of all! So, guzzle, guzzle, guzzle America!

Do you think your sarcasm helps or changes anything?
I think it helps. If you didn't notice, most of Americans are still to stupid and dumb to figure it out.
This would be shocking news to most Americans...perhaps not to you, but to most it is. I'll bet 1 of 2 things - after reading this article, most Americans would either say:
1) Here come the treehugging, tin foil hat conspiracy theorists OR
2) Oh my God...how could this be? We're not doing anything wrong by driving around in our 8 passenger, 6000lb living rooms on 4 wheels...all by ourselves.
People's stupidity in this country will be its downfall. Pure and simple. And you guys deserve everything you get.
No. You're right.
I've been sick for over a week now, so I'm a little grumpy.
Still, I don't understand why Americans and candidates for President aren't making foreign oil dependency THE issue.
National security, jobs, the economy all are completely intertwined with America's foreign oil dependency.
It's not the economy, stupid!
If we weren't dependant on foreign oil our economy would be stronger than ever. A massive jobs program to end foreign oil dependency would pay for itself almost instantly just in national security cost reductions.
Why don't we accept this challenge? It might not be a moon-shot. In fact, it would probably be easier than achieving the moon, but it would make the world a far better place than reaching the moon did.
What are we waiting for?
Dahc...
The reason why it's not THE issue is because, as I have said earlier, (but this really isn't the place to dive into it) is that major forces outside of the country and influential lobbies will not allow it to be an ISSUE.
Instead we are fed repackaged information and it's sold to us as "the terrorists" this and that...
If you really want to know why it's not an issue, read documents from PNAC, AIPAC, and so on...documents with titles like "Invading Iraq Is Not Enough"...written by people like Cheney, Wolfowizt, Chertoff, etc...
The reasons are in front of us...they're betting on the hopes that we won't read any of this stuff and realize it.
noz-
i hear you.
nonetheless, i can't help but keep hoping that people might yet stand up and revolt.
Decredyns: To you I say THANK YOU!!! I can't even begin to say it enough!!! I have been screaming at the television set as I am a seriuos politician watcher! I have been following politics since I watched the Watergate hearings as a young kid (with my sitter) saying "young man they're all crooks""don't ever trust politicians" the oil issue was the security issue in the 70's as it is today but nobody has the balls to say WE NEED AN ENERGY POLICY!! Not a one has come forward and admitted that we will have to suck it up and maybe put 300 miles of solar panels across Nevada. Couple of 400 megga watt nukes on the UPPER EAST coast YES MISTER TED KENNEDY THAT WAS DIRECTED AT YOU SIR!! AND SOME UNSIGHTLY WINDMILLS TOO!!!Damn liberals crack me up ...save the enviroment but do it somewhere else....what a joke!!
All people need to do is watch the Discovery Channel, or the Science Channel, subscribe to Popular Science or Mechanic...the technology that is out there would blow you away if people actually KNEW what our scientists have achieved. Absolutely NO reason to not be largely oil dependent in just a few years. With the money that is spewed out to useless things and to other countries...we'd have no problem implementing these technologies. Do was is smart and right. Be a leader again, not a follower USA!
"the technology that is out there would blow you away if people actually KNEW what our scientists have achieved. Absolutely NO reason to not be largely oil dependent in just a few years."
and, i believe taking this approach is a HUGE investment. we have everything to gain and nothing to lose because if we don't start getting serious, we will lose.
sure it won't be easy, as masterblaster stated, "we will have to suck it up"
but if the gov and corporations came together to achieve these ends with as much energy and leadership as america used to help defeat the nazis, we would not fail and the investment wouldn't just pay for itself, it would lead to numerous new jobs and technologies that would make america stronger than military enforced 'cheap oil' ever will.
