Some Chevy Volt updates from NAIAS

Batteries still hamper the Chevy Volt

The first fully functional Chevy Volt probably won't be available until June or July, largely because GM still has not received enough batteries according to Bob Lutz today. While GM could create a fully functional Volt, they cannot guarantee that it would achieve 40 miles of electricity at this time. More important, more battery development can be done in the lab than in just a Volt or two.

I also talked to Frank Weber, Global Vehicle Line Executive for the Volt and the E-Flex Drive whom has no doubts that GM will achieve mass-production of the Volt. Everything is going well in Volt development so far, according to Weber. Now it's just engineering and re-engineering and some more engineering, plus a whole lot of software code.

I have more on the Volt that I recorded, but I have to watch some football! Go Giants!
