Tax deductions do nothing but make it easier for Washington to hide lies. The bills that provide those deductions are often sever hundred pages. There should be a requirement that new laws must fit on one side of letter paper and be a reasonable size font. Then these heinous loopholes like the 6000 lb car write-off would be exposed early on.
Ron Paul has a good point with getting rid of the IRS. We need to simplify tax code. Simple income tax. Appropriate gas tax. No need for deductions.
Tax deductions, etc. no doubt do lead to significant loopholes, and perhaps getting rid of the IRS is a good idea. The small business tax deduction for gas-guzzlers seems to prove your point quite well.
Until that happens, or our gas tax is enacted, I still have to advocate for hybrid tax incentives as a better solution for government pork and loopholes, rather than for gas-guzzlers.
