CAFE reality: Most interested in hybrids, but few buyers
Most still pick the Camry over the Camry hybridThere is a belief, especially among hybrid critics, that the Toyota Prius is the best selling hybrid vehicle because it looks different. While there are some that buy the Prius purely for status, many others buy it purely for fuel economy.

My biggest problem with Hybrids is that no US (GM in particular) company makes a hybrid that gets comparable gas milleage to the Prius. Thats the only thing holding me back from buying a Hybrid. I grew up in the 80s and remember the buy american stickers floating around. That and I've always been a loyalist to GM. I wonder how many others are waiting for that day. Lets just say there wont be anything to help the used SUV market on that day.
A lot of people are with you Thomas. That's why so many are excited about the Chevy Volt.
Sadly, however, until the Volt hits the streets in 2010, there won't be a GM vehicle that is comparable to the Prius.
The closest thing will probably be the Saturn Vue dual mode hybrid. Obviously, however, it won't have Prius fuel economy, but it might offer plug-in technology.
At this point in time, GM's dual mode hybrid technology just isn't super scalable to small cars like the Prius.
