Peugeot sets hybrid production date
Coming in 2010?Sometime in 2010, Peugeot will begin production on diesel hybrid vehicles. One of the first might be the Peugeot 308 HDI hybrid. According to Car&Driver, "new 308 hybrid HDi has a 107-hp 1.6-liter diesel engine mated to a 21-hp electric motor. On the EU combined cycle, the 308 is rated at a whopping 69 mpg."

A car achieves a fuel consumption rate of 70 mpg, and no comments have been made. I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks this is really exciting. Amazingly simple, yet ingenius. Hats off to those at Peugeot. How come this wasn't seen earlier? VW has been getting 40-50 mpg for years. Add some batts and an elec. motor...BAM..70 mpgs easy.
In a few years we should see a number of diesel hybrids coming to market. Unfortunately, you might have to live in Europe to enjoy them.
