Toyota hybrids post record sales in May

The Camry hybrid was also hot

Ouch! That's all I can say regarding the sales of the Toyota Prius hybrid car this May.

With a tax credit that has been cut in half, then cut in half again, one might have expected a bit of a drop in the sales of Toyota's hybrid vehicles, or at least some stagnation. Instead, Toyota posted its BEST EVER month of Prius sales, selling some 24,009 Prius vehicles - almost equaling the total sales of Toyota's entire Lexus division.

Complete Story

Ouch! That's all I can say regarding the sales of the Toyota Prius hybrid car this May.

With a tax credit that has been cut in half, then cut in half again, one might have expected a bit of a drop in the sales of Toyota's hybrid vehicles, or at least some stagnation. That's every Lexus, not just Lexus hybrids.

Quite simply, Prius sales were smoking hot in May. One can only imagine what Prius sales would have been like if Toyota still qualified for the full clean vehicle tax credit.

But, why would Congress want to help put too many hybrids on the roads of America too quickly? They only affect global warming and foreign oil dependency - nothing too important.

And for lucky Toyota, it wasn't just stellar Prius numbers.

Toyota also sold almost 7,000 Camry hybrids, over 3,300 Highlander hybrids and 1,746 Lexus RX400h hybrids.
