The death of another Honda hybrid?

What will hybrid vehicle critics do now?

Earlier this year I predicted the Honda Accord hybrid would be phased out. Yesterday, Forbes reported that Honda will not continue to produce the Accord hybrid when the Accord is redesigned this Fall.

The Accord hybrid, which was really more of a mild hybrid designed almost specifically for highway driving, was often the hybrid cited by critics when discussing the real world fuel economy of hybrid cars. Despite the fact that Honda never designed the hybrid Accord for extreme fuel economy, critics couldn't stop picking on hybrids via the very poor selling Accord hybrid.

Maybe critics will now start focusing on reality? Yeah, right.

i didn't feel like this was much of a hybrid. It's more of a performance oriented vehicle than a environmental oriented vehicle because of its mileage numbers, like nearly all lexus hybrids

Speaking of cancelled hybrids, is there any truth to the rumor that Ford has cancelled the Escape hybrid? I went to a local Ford dealer last week and test drove the 2008 Escape hybrid and loved it. The one I tested was not the model I wanted so the salesman said he'd call when others came in. He called me yesterday and left a voicemail that Ford cancelled the Escape hybrid, but two were coming in if I wanted one! I scoured the web today and could not find any such announcement. Anyone here of such news?

I was at a Ford dealership on Saturday and was told that Ford couldn't make the new 08 Escape hybrids fast enough.

That's the latest news I've heard.
