Escalade hybrid works for the Oscars, but not the real world?

Good enough for the Oscars, but not you

I'm sorry, but I don't get GM. They use an Escalade hybrid at the Oscars, yet the vehicle won't be available until at least mid-2008 as a 2009 model?

If it's ready, why not start selling it as a 2008 model? Continue reading Escalade hybrid works for the Oscars.

(Rest of Story)

The same can be said of the 2008 Tahoe hybrid, or the 2008 Yukon hybrid. These hybrid vehicles have been on display at numerous auto shows for more than a year, yet not one of them has been sold. Why?

If you have production-ready vehicles, why not put them into production? Or, are these vehicles not yet really production-ready vehicles? Is GM again more focused on 'image value' rather than real value? Was the Escalade hybrid simply an Oscar stunt?

Even worse, are there problems with the dual mode hybrid powertrain? Is development falling behind schedule, or is there a shortage of hybrid parts, such as batteries?

In 2009 Toyota might be producing its third generation - lithium-ion powered - Hybrid Synergy Drive, yet GM will still be rolling out the first generation of its dual mode hybrid drive?

Can that really make sense?
