Who cares? Clinton and his hybrid vehicle

I'm sorry. I don't really care about Bill Clinton and his new Mercury Mariner hybrid (more). I say, it's long over due. I say the Clintons, and EVERY single member of Congress, should have been driving a hybrid vehicle for several years now. Instead, a few members drive flex-fuel vehicles - that rarely see a drop of E85. That is not a worthy statement.

Too many members of Congress and many other politicians make bold statements about the price of gasoline, foreign oil dependency and the environment - yet, they drive gas-guzzlers. These people cannot only afford hybrid vehicles, they have the greatest responsibility to drive them.

Every bit helps so don't be so cynical. No other Presidents drive hybrids. Would you rather he drive a Lincoln or Cadillac?

Since the vehicle was donated by Ford, I'll stick to cynicism. If not for Ford's donation, he would be driving a Lincoln or Cadillac. It's not like he went out of his way to make a statement.

This post is a bit of a contradiction - you're arguing that you don't care that the former Prez is doing it, but everyone should be doing it. I'm more of the "any pro-hybrid news is good news" camp, though I agree that all the Congress-critters should be doing it

How is it a contradiction?

This is pure PR. Ford isn't going to live up to its promise on hybrid cars, but they will donate a hybrid to the Department of Homeland Security for Pres. Clinton's Secret Service Agents?

That's so positive? Again, I say SO WHAT?!

If Clinton actually bought the hybrid, maybe I could call the act positive, but he didn't. Additionally, I'd rather have Ford - FOR ONCE - live up to its stated commitments, such as 250,000 hybrid vehicles, and save the PR for another day.

Moreover, since it was donated to Homeland Security, it really has nothing to do with Clinton, from what I've read. Ford designed the hybrid specifically for Clinton, in what I see as a shrewd, but shallow, P.R. move.

Personally, I'm just tired of Ford, GM and their cronies in Washington. Nonestop P.R. and endless soundbites, but decades of empty promises and ever increasing foreign oil dependency.

So forgive me for being cynical.
