What do you think of a lobbying group for hybrid vehicles?

A new lobbying group, Hybrid Owners of America, put together by the Newton, Mass.-based Civil Society Institute, is now advocating for new incentives for hybrid cars. (more) So, any thoughts out there? I HATE lobbyists. While I believe in advocating for more incentives for the buyers of hybrid vehicles and other fuel efficient technologies, I believe it should happen at the grassroots level. Lobbyists are the reason we have such a problem with foreign oil dependency in the first place. Sure, you might have to fight fire with fire sometimes, so I'll try to remain objective. Still, I'd rather align myself with citizens, not lobbyists.

A lobbyist or lobbyists for fuel efficiency is long overdue. Fat burdensome vehicles going down the road should become a thing of the past. More research for fuel efficiency and batteries is needed with incredible momentum. For the health of our country, energy efficiency is truly needed.

I don't disagree with you at all. I'm just saying that I don't think the voice of change is ever well vocalized through lobbyists, it must be vocalized through the people for real change.

Eventually, lobbyists - much like politicians - become more attuned to raising money than actually achieving change. Inevitably, significant percentages of raised money go into the 'administration' of change, rather than change.

there should be alot of lobbiests for an increase in fuel efficiency and new technology. lawmakers must pass sweeping changes to change the way the nation uses its resources. fuel efficiency standards must be rewritten and every car company should be forced to make a hybrid vehicle or super low emission vehicle. it is long overdue that the CAFE standards for cars have remained the same. it is important that america kicks its oil addiction and that detroit starts making more efficient and effective vehicles. gas prices will remain high because demand will keep going up as more and more countries are purchasing vehicles and using up the worlds oil supply. it is important to start transitioning our economy to a hydrogen economy and forcing all gasoline station to install 1 hydrogen pump. i do believe production hydrogen cars will come out by 2010 and that we will have another repeat of the 1970s oil crisis by that time. once oil hits 4.00-6.00 a gallon congress must act! they should have acted already. not by more drilliong or tax breaks but by funding alternative energy products and transitioning america away from oil. i say yes to hybrid and fuel efficient lobbyists it is much needed.

you can create incentives for drivers and automakers to support hybrid technology, however you cannot mandate the use of the cars. we cannot lose our free market society - let the best technology win! for example, we get a great hybrid out to market, but another technology moves in and is better, but because it doesnt have a well paid lobby, it fails... government should create efficiency and savings incentives for all americans so we can become a more efficient and resourceful society.

well, there are SUV lobbys. ethanol lobbys. how is a hybrid lobby any different?

maybe we should just make lobbying illegal?
