Toyota Camry Hybrid Testimonials

Toyota Camry hybrid testimonials from real Camry hybrid drivers.I wanted to share with you that I just purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. I took it on the hwy, driving about 200 miles round trip. Without using the cruise control and Using the AC, I achieved an average of 37 mpg. That's extremely close to what was estimated for hwy driving of 38 mpg. I love the car, and am very glad I bought it. I traded in a 2003 Toyota Matrix 4X4. The Camry gets almost double what the Matrix achieved.

Sincerely,
C. P.

I have had my 2007 Camry Hybrid for 1 month now and have had to fill the tank twice. Since I just started that first tank, it's only on 35 mpg so far. My first tank of gas, I averaged about 38-40 mpg. (That's city/hwy combined.)

It's a wonderful car and so comfortable. Even my husband, who is 6'4" is comfortable in this car, even in the back seat. That is a first!!!

Before the Camry I was driving a VW Jetta (2002) that was a hunk of junk and burned a lot of oil. The Camry feels like a luxury car compared to my old Jetta.

We get comments all the time about it being such a nice looking car and lots of comments on the color. (We have the red one.)

I highly recommend this car, which is good for the environment and a wonderful car to drive.

I have wanted a hybrid for years and test drove a Prius several years ago. A combination of my financial situation and the small trunk size of the original Prius left me waiting, promising to get one of the first hybrid Camry's when it came out. I started bugging the dealership in Nov '05, got on their waiting list in Jan '06, and got one of the first dozen or so cars, in late summer.

I originally just wanted a decent quality car with good mileage and a trunk that can hold a bit of gear for camping and my bbq. I decided to get their upper package to get GPS,bluetooth, and the nifty stereo. What I got in the end seems like a complete luxury car. It is a thing of beauty, very smooth and quiet driving with a good amount of muscle (equivalent to my old V6 Camry). It has about every bell and whistle I could think of, is wonderful to drive, impresses every person who has sat in it, and gets great mileage. Most people comment on how quiet it is inside and how smooth the ride is.

On the highway driving speeds around the speed limit, I get mileage around 40mpg. I drove 300 miles on one trip and averaged right at 40mpg. I drove about 40 miles through country roads and got over 40. If I go up around 80mpg, I start seeing the efficiency drop. In hard city driving with lots of hard stops and starts (Chicago), mileage drops into the high 20's. Less aggressive drivers should see much better city mileage.

Anyway, I highly recommend the hybrid Camry. It was well worth the wait (9 years since the first Prius came out!).

Now if only it was a plug-in...

I have owned my Camry Hybrid for a year now and am totally loving driving it. This past tank, I got 700 miles before getting to nervous to go on and stopped for gas this morning. To my surprise it only took 15.499 gallons to fill it up. That calculates to 45.16 MPG. What a difference it has made not only in lessening my gas consumption, but also has made me a safer driver in trying to maximize the performance while on the freeways of Los Angeles and Orange counties.

JR Dallas Tx
This car is amazing. I drove it from Dallas to North Dakota and got about 625 miles per tank and that was at speeds in excess of 70 MPH. My previous car with same size gas tank gave me about 200 miles less which is a big deal. Another thing about the car is that if you need the power just put the pedal to the medal and I promise you will not be dissapointed.

I've owned a 2007 Camry Hybrid since May 2006. My average mileage over this period has been 38.7 MPG (hwy/city combined). I can easily get over 40 MPG driving normally.

No problems with the car. It's great to drive; has excellent acceleration; and very quiet.

I highly recommend it.

Gas mileage? Well, that IS one reason a lot of people buy hybrids - but in my case, I bought it for several other reasons; the great gas mileage is just a nice bonus (I average b/w 35-37 mixed driving).

I LOVE the freaking stereo!!! 440W of pure JBL-speaker-powered music is, well, music to my ears! Eight speakers give me AWESOME sound when I crank up Pink Floyd to 55 on the volume level!

LOVE the CVT! Near-seamless shift changes (you don't feel the transmission 'bump' anymore - that little pressure on your butt is the gas engine turning on and off at speeds below 40mph!) make for a very pleasant ride.

Traction, stability, AND ABS standard! Along with F&S airbags. Sensors to tell you when a small child is seated in the front passenger seat so that the airbag is automatically disabled! Nice touch, Toyota!

My ALL-TIME fave thing in this car, though, has to be the key! Just touch the handle (with the key in your pocket or pocketbook, as the case may be) and the door unlocks! Oh yes, by the way, the door lock(s) can be programmed so that ALL doors unlock at once - but you have to get your dealer to program it (the computer) for you!

Headlights can also be programmed by said dealer to shut off as soon as the door is opened, just as in older models. I always loved that about Toyota!

Trunk can also be opened with a single touch of your hand - again, as long as you have the key on your person somewhere! Oh, yes, your buddy the dealer can also change the tag programming to unlock the trunk either with two quick clicks instead of one long one, or even with just one quick touch! I have it programmed the last way!

You can also program the computer to disable either the lights blink or the audible beep, or BOTH, when you lock/unlock the car.

Auto-locking doors that can be programmed to lock with speed-sensitivity rather than shifting out of "P". GREAT stuff!!!

FINALLY! A telescopic steering wheel WITH audio and air etc. controls right in the wheel the way ALL cars should have them so that I don't have to take my eyes off the road at 70mph to change channels on the radio or adjust the heating/cooling in my Camry! YES!! It's about dern time, y'all!!!

LOVE the QUIET!!! Toyota could have made this car a little quieter by insulating the firewall between the engine and the cabin, but hey, I'm not complaining! Even the way it is, this car is freakin' TOMB-like!!!

BEAUTIFULLY organized and logically placed control levers, etc. etc. all the hallmarks of Toyota design engineers' thinking.

187 HP from a 4-cylinder, coupled with a 0-60 time of around 8 seconds AND 35-40 mpg! Man, who could ask for anything more?

Well, I could, actually. WHY did they not add memory seats? Lights above the visors? Power passenger seat? Visor extenders to block out the sun's rays from the side at that odd angle the sun ALWAYS seems to hit your face from where the visor don't extend? Softer suspension? (Don't get me wrong! It is still a pretty compliant ride, but I miss the completely DETACHED feeling from my 94 XLE!!!) AND WHY DID TOYOTA SWITCH FROM A FULL-SIZED SPARE TO THAT SILLY DONUT??? *sobs*

More than the gas mileage, I LOVE the fact that this car inspires me to drive more carefully, rather than flooring the gas as I would do with a V-6 manual tranny (as in my Solara :*))! Maybe I'm getting old!? AND I love the fact that I'm now contributing significantly LESS greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than I used to :):):) My kids and future grandkids can breathe a little easier, literally!

I purchased my 2007 Camry Hybrid August 2006. After 19,000 miles which has inluding driving around very conjested Washington, D.C. area rush hour traffic, this car has been incredible. Around town my average is between 35MPG and 38MPG. Everyone that has gone places with me in the car has lots of compliments too. It truely looks and drives like a luxury car. The sound system is awesome w/ XM!! I have driven the car from Maryland to Louisiana and back and averaged between 43 and 45MPG with the AC running and driving at about 75MPH most of the trip. This car far exceeds my 2001 Toyota Corolla in many ways.

I highly recommend the car, the deep Blue color, moonroof and leather interior was well worth the many visits to Toyota dealers and internet searches to locate the vehicle.

I've driven my Camry Hybrid for 8
months now. It's a great piece of
technology.Comfortable for a 6'3"
person. I average around 35-36mpg
driving it without regard to fuel
saving. If I'm careful I am able to get 39-40 in mixed driving.I'm sold on hybrids. We can do them now.Perhaps they are not the ultimate answer to the fuel crisis
but they are a good interim step in the process. Congrats to Toyota and Honda for carrying this technology forward. It's a little sicking to me to see companies like
GM jumping and the bandwagon so
late and acting like they care so deeply about the environment. I do
hope they will, at least, expand the options for consumers.

I have had the car for 4 months and have driven 10k miles. I love this car. My other car is an Acura TL which is nice but I love the feel of the Camry more. Gas mileage is great 35 to 40 mpg with little effort. If I drive hard I get 33mpg. Use cruise and "econ" for the AC.

I have about 20k miles on my Camry Hybrid. Unlike most of the other posts, I am not particularly happy with it. It gets good highway mileage, about 36 mpg, sometimes (rarely) as much as 40. Around town, however, it does exceptionally poorly -- somewhere around 31 or 32 mpg. So my car averages 33 mpg and has since I purchased it. The problem (I believe) it that it accelerates on the gas engine instead of the electric engine. Should be a simple fix, but the dealer here in Davis is unable to do anything. This could be a great car, but it's just not. Not yet -- when they make it so that in-town acceleration can be electric -- this will make a huge difference.

31 - 32 in city driving isn't exceptionally poor. the 4 cylinder Camry only achieves about 21 mpg in the city. the 6 cylinder, which is a closer comparison to the hybrid gets 19. relatively speaking your fuel economy is actually pretty good.

I love my 2008 Camry but I have managed to loose the keyless ignition device not once but twice which, as you might imagine, is very expensive. After the first loss, I made sure I had two devices and I still have one of those which I am using. Before I replace the back up device, is there any where I could detect or activate a signal from it somehow? I know I misplaced it somewhere in the house or garage but I don't know enough about how they work to know if I could somehow detect the sensors in it that are still working, not doubt.

I went to buy a Nissan Sentra and the dealer had a slighly used Camry hybrid. I had just test driven the Prius and hated it. I felt I was in a plane cockpit. The Camry hybrid felt like a normal car, had great acceleration, an incredible sound system, and was backed by Toyota's reputation for reliability. The price was right so I took the car, and I havn't regretted it since. It drives beautifully, it does live up to the promised gas stinginess, and is just a pleasure to own.

On the downside, the car has a way of reminding me of my failings in ways that can get on my nerves. I beeps frantically, it unlocks the car after I lock it, and will not accept no for an answer until I've remedied the offense. You forgot the key in the car, you did not shift to park, you opened the door before turning off the engine, or any number of offenses that merit a scolding. The car is always right but the problem is I AM THE CUSTOMER!

I rented a 2009 Camry Hybrid, so my reactions are first-time. My other car is an Infiniti M35x. Here is my reaction: It doesn't want to go, it doesn't want to stop, and really doesn't want to stop at a gas station. The 0-60 time was 8.3 seconds, which is respectable for an economy car, but the off-the-line performance is poor. There is a noticable lag as the engine starts. I'm used to taking my foot off the gas pedal to begin slowing down. The hybrid has no engine braking and will not slow down at all until you hit the brakes. And the braking is funky too- it starts out as regeneration, and not until you are really pushing do you get the second phase with wheel brakes. Beware of this response when you first drive the car.

Gas mileage was 39.3 mpg on a trip, almost 2x my M35, so my last comment is explained.

Driving the Camry hybrid is different, but you quickly become accustomed to it. You begin to understand how HSD flows between gas and battery. Once you understand that, you can get off the line even faster - if you have to, but that won't increase your fuel fuel economy. And, why buy a hybrid if you don't care about fuel economy?
