Professional grade gas-guzzling: This is American?
O.K. I'm just going to vent for a few minutes. See, I'm offended that retired autoworkers would appeal to Americans and question how American are American-made Toyota, etc vehicles. Are these folks really worried about America, or just their own pocketbooks?
How American is it that GM's best selling vehicles require ever-increasing foreign oil dependency? How American is it that GM's fuel efficient vehicles are largely produced OUTSIDE of America?
So, gas-guzzling is the only way to keep America strong? (Full Story in Comments)

Gas-guzzling and Terrorism
Did gas-guzzling directly cause the Iraq War, 9/11 or increased American hate? Perhaps not, but to say there is no connection between foreign oil dependency perpetuated by gas guzzling and these events is simply RIDICULOUS. The facts have proven that oil money has, minimally, paid for terrorism against the U.S..
Inevitably, far too many Americans don't act very American, including the majority of Democrats that blame Bush for the problem as they drive their gas-guzzlers. Both parties have failed America when it comes to foreign oil dependency. Saying one party has failed a little more is pointless. It's like bragging about a D instead of an F on an important test - both are a sign of failure.
Then there are hybrid cars, which the boys at GM say don't make business sense, yet they will build them anyway, for image. Now that's conviction, that's American! Ultimately, buying any foreign made hybrid car is FAR more patriotic than buying any American-made gas-guzzler. Moreover, the fact that foreign automakers are leading the battle against American foreign oil dependency is nothing short of pathetic.
If America is about freedom, how does increasing America's foreign oil dependency lead to greater freedom in the world?
If America is about profits at the expense of the people, then Detroit is as American as they come.
