The NHTSA will open an investigation into the Toyota Prius amidst 33 complaints of alleged stalling or stopping. Previous reports have hinted that some Prii might need a software update. Thus far, it does not appear that the problem has resulted in an any kind of accident. Ultimately, the investigation should determine whether a recall is necessary. (More on Prius stalling)
I bought 3 weeks ago a pre certified toyota prius 2005 with 55,000 miles from perruzi dealer. The first day of getting the vehichle the car stalled in the highway. The warning lights came on, I called the dealer and they told me if the car had fuel. I said you filled it up at the dealer when I bought it. Manager said shut off then turn it on. I did ans it worked. I brought it back to the dealer and he said they can not put it in the computer because all the red warning had clear themselves off. Tow weeks later in the I95 NJTP going 65mph the call shots down again. I was 100 feet to the gas station because I had two quarter of a tank. The patrol called a tow truck I told them to take to the dealer. I went there on monday and they said I had no fuel. I told them that the car had 2 bars indicating the car was not empty. 2x times the car stopped in the highway with a full tank and with two bars. I also noted that the car accelarates when you let go of cruise control it starts to speed up for no apparent reason.I just press on the brakes. Why is no one doing nothing for this scary vehichle in the highways run. I go to the toyota dealer and they said they never had no problems with this vihichle. Im disgusted by the feds the amount of people putting complaints and nothing gets done. I can wait till I get rid of this prius nightmare. My only assumption is that it has to do with a computer clitch
Statistically speaking the Prius has been a very safe car for a decade. After well over 1 million sales, around 90 percent of Prius buyers would buy another Prius.
Obviously, that doesn't mean that lemons don't slip through the cracks, but a decade of real world data indicates the most Prius hybrids are very safe and reliable.
Unfortunately, it sounds as if you got stuck with a lemon.
