Automakers sign deal with Canada to reduce emissions

Canada and the world's largest auto manufacturers have signed an agreement that will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 6% by 2010. While this might be seen as a win by the Canadian government and environmentalists, it is a far less reduction than that which California seeks. California's clean air legislation requires a 30% reduction in emissions, implemented over 2 phases, so the California plan does offer more time.

Nonetheless, Canada's legislation should set a precedent. More from the AFP.
