Dealer Fees for hybrid cars and SUVs

If you've gone shopping for a hybrid car or SUV, you might have suffered a little sticker shock. Typically, the sticker cost of a hybrid is between $3000 - $5000 more than its conventional version. Yet many hybrids are marked up much more than this with extra dealer fees.

What's up with an extra $5000.00 for a Toyota Prius, or $3000.00 for a Ford Escape Hybrid?

Has anyone paid more, or less?

If you've test driven a Prius, Escape hybrid, Honda Accord hybrid, or Civic hybrid, how much were your dealer's fees?

About 2 months ago I was ready to trade in my SUV that gives me about 12 miles to the gallon for a Toyota Pruis. But to my disappointment every dealer I went to had an average mark up of at least $3,000. And not to mention a very short supply of hybrids. So I jumped back into my gas guzzler and decided to keep looking and wait until there's more selection, maybe that will help prevent the excessive mark ups!

More people should learn about electric vehicles as a solution. "Zero emissions" is something that's going to be required by law one day (you know it will). Making the decision to go electric is far cheaper anyway, like 10 cents on the dollar vs. gas. (source: zapworld.com)
