On the other side of hybrid car hype
"This is a do-or-die situation for a vital American industry. We cannot afford to lose the fight," said Roland Hwang, Vehicles Policy Director at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). "The answer is simple: Compete. Build the best damn cars and trucks in the world, and build them with the clean, efficient technology the market needs now. That means hybrids."
"We need to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. We need to invest in America's factories, rather than sending our dollars overseas to oil-rich areas of the world that are unstable and increasingly hostile to our country," Hwang said. "That means we need to end the stand-off and start delivering real solutions."

More people should learn about electric vehicles as a solution. "Zero emissions" is something that's going to be required by law one day (you know it will). Making the decision to go electric is far cheaper anyway, like 10 cents on the dollar vs. gas. (source: zapworld.com)
Don't necessarily assume that going 'zero emmissions' is always better for the environment. Where does that electricity used to power your 'green' car come from? If you live in the USA it most likely comes from a 1950's based coal plant that puts out mega-tons of CO2 and hurts the enivonment way worse than your neighbor who rolls to work everday in the hummer.
The USA and the rest of the world need to adopt and create infrastructure for clean, reliable sources of energy (ie: wind power & solar power)

i completely agree with you. although it does vary state-by-state in terms of grid pollution. still, you make a very relevant point.
